Fun and unique avocado meals to try while they are dirt cheap!

Despite the price of nearly everything soaring to the heavens, we’re pleased to announce that a few items are no longer budget stressors.

These days, the surplus in the domestic production of avocados has dragged the fruit’s price down to a low $1 each.


The situation has gotten so out of hand that Australians are being urged to consume and export more of the product after its production was estimated to jump by 40 per cent in the next five years.

With that in mind, it’s the perfect time to bring out your inner chef and experiment with fun avocado meals beyond the usual guacamole and toast combinations.

1. Avocado soup

Kicking things off with an unusual but delicious twist (that will surely keep you toasty throughout winter) is avocado soup!

It may not make the best first impression (as green soup doesn’t look very appetising), but it resembles a savoury smoothie. Feel free to be creative with it by adding crunchy corn chips, tortilla strips, or nuts to improve the texture!

Everyone loves freshly baked banana bread. It resembles both a cake and slice packed in one tasty loaf that you can indulge in guilt-free. But to take things to another level, add some avocado to the mix!

One of the best properties of avocados is that it makes just about anything creamier. So if you’re a fan of creamy desserts and avocados, why not get the best of both worlds?


This avocado and mint ‘ice cream’ doesn’t contain any dairy but it still mimics the dessert’s beloved texture. The natural fats and oils in avocados (don’t worry, they are the good kind) make this a silky and smooth dessert.

Unlike the avocado ice cream, this dessert isn’t dairy free. However, we can reassure you that it’s just as heavenly and it’s not too complicated to make either.

Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
  • 250 grams of digestive biscuits
  • 100 grams of unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons of caster sugar
  • 340 grams of cream cheese
  • 3 ripe avocados, peeled and chopped
  • 2 small limes, zest and juice
  • Half a cup of caster sugar (for the filling)
  • 150 grams of coconut cream
  • Half a cup of thickened cream

Start by popping the biscuits in a food processor and blitzing them up until they turn into crumbs. Add the sugar and melted butter. Place the mixture into a lined springform tin before leaving it in the fridge for about 10 minutes or until set.

Then, blitz up cream cheese, avocado, lime juice and zest, and half a cup of sugar until they reach a nice and smooth texture. Add the coconut and thickened cream and whip the ingredients thoroughly.


Pour the filling over the biscuit base and freeze until perfectly set – overnight is usually best. Ensure that it’s covered tightly with cling wrap that is pressed down on the surface to get rid of air and prevent browning. You may opt to finish it off with a sprinkle of lime zest for added effect!

My granddaughter thinks we are both strange , we just like to eat 1/2 avocado each out of the skin ! I sprinkle a bit of pepper on my 1/2 , fabulous . You don’t have to do anything to this fruit which is full of fats that are good for you !
