Forty and Fabulous! Kate Middleton stuns during the royal couple’s first outing of the year

On Wednesday morning, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were reported to be back on royal duty.

The pair arrived in great spirits at The Foundling Museum in Brunswick Square to learn more about the care sector and meet people who had direct experience of living in care.

In what seemed to be the duchess’ first in-person engagement of the year, Kate Middleton arrived at the museum in a dazzling dark ensemble–consisting of navy trousers, a matching navy turtleneck jumper, heels, and a classic coat in teal colour.

She also donned a pair of gold earrings, which surprisingly only cost $10.99 from Accessorize! The earrings are described as ‘the perfect pairing to give your daytime look some chic appeal’, which is exactly what the Duchess achieved.

Beside her is Prince William, who looked as sharp and suave as ever, in his classic navy suit jacket to match his wife.

The Foundling Museum in London tells the history of the Foundling Hospital – UK’s first children’s charity which was founded in 1739 to provide a home for motherless children.

Soon after arriving at the venue, the royal couple joined a roundtable discussion along with social experts to talk about foster care in the country. Among the topics discussed were the challenges that young people face after leaving care, such as employment, housing, mental health issues, and addiction.

Included within the discussion are Olympic athlete Kris Akabusi, poet Lemn Sissay, and Allan Jenkins, editor of Observer Food Monthly, who have shared their experiences of growing up in care.

During the visit, Kate and William also joined the group in a bonding exercise, which had them drawing images on the floor.

“Is that me?” Kate jokingly asked her husband, to which William responded with a laugh and “Yes, that's you.”

Some royal fans even caught the pair engaging in an adorable (not to mention, rare!) public displays of affection.

Kate and William don’t often hold hands or show public displays of affection because royal rules must have them act ‘professionally’ at all times.

But during these rare occasions, seeing the pair hold hands and touch each other’s backs as they walk out of the building reminds us that despite their royal status, they are a couple deeply in love.

It truly seems that Kate Middleton is a bright and kind person, as well as a modern fashion icon! If you’re interested in dressing like the Duchess of Cambridge – minus the royal budget, of course – check out this video below!
