Former AFL star opens up about near-death experience during intense weight loss regimen

Embarking on a health journey is quite an admirable goal, isn't it? It's amazing how shedding any extra kilos can work wonders for our well-being, keeping those pesky ailments like heart troubles, diabetes, and achy joints at bay.

Not to mention the delightful boost in confidence and the joyous feeling we get when we look in the mirror and see a healthier version of ourselves.

However, it's important to remember that our health and well-being should never be compromised in the pursuit of weight loss. Sometimes we witness celebrities or even ourselves eagerly striving to shed those kilos, but it's crucial to maintain a balance and prioritise our overall wellness above all else.

After all, what good is a fit figure if it comes at the expense of our precious health?

Let us tell you about the story of the sports legend, Brendan Fevola. Recently, he opened up about his extreme weight loss journey that took him to some frightening lengths.

Back in 2017, Fevola had a contract with the well-known weight loss company Jenny Craig. As a part of the deal, he was left in a position where he had to lose a staggering 12 kilograms in just nine days! The pressure was undoubtedly intense, and unfortunately, Fevola turned to some very dangerous methods in his quest to meet the target.

Fevola recently opened up about his challenging experience on his radio show, Fox FM's Fifi, Fev & Nic, where he shared the dangers of his rapid weight loss journey, which he admitted had put his health and even his life at risk.

'I didn't eat for virtually seven days. I went to a sauna, and I walked out at the Brighton Baths to go for a little walk, but I had no energy. It was so bad; it was the only time I thought I'd die. My nose started bleeding for no reason, and I had some soup which filled me back up,' he recalled.

During his time with Jenny Craig, Fevola's contract not only demanded that he shed the initial 12 kilograms but also maintain his reduced weight within a two-kilo range for the following year. This meant monthly weigh-ins were necessary, and he had to navigate the process independently, with no support from the company.

Brendan eventually succeeded in reaching his weight loss target of 108 kilograms, starting from his initial weight of 119.8 kilograms. Despite the nightmarish experience he endured, he managed to find a glimmer of positivity.

He fondly recalled the morning he stepped on the scale, weighed in at 107 kilograms, and was met with applause and words of congratulations from the Jenny Craig staff.

However, the journey did not end there, as Brendan faced some unexpected bumps in the road after reaching his goal weight. In a candid moment, he revealed how he gave in to some unhealthy temptations and indulged in a junk food binge after a weigh-in.

Apparently, there was a McDonald's restaurant located right next to a Jenny Craig centre. After every weigh-in, he found himself heading straight to the fast-food chain to treat himself.

On one particular occasion, he purchased two McChickens, a Big Mac, and a large serving of fries. After devouring the first McChicken, he was left feeling nauseous and almost vomited.

  • Despite reaching his goal weight, he faced challenges in maintaining it and even indulged in a post-weigh-in junk food binge that left him feeling unwell.

In recent news, it was reported that Jenny Craig had taken a significant step in its efforts to salvage its operations in Australia and New Zealand.

The company made the decision to appoint voluntary administrators in a final attempt to restructure its businesses and prevent a fate similar to its parent company in the United States, which has resorted to filing for bankruptcy.

It's similar to Weight Watchers, with their lifetime membership where it's free for life, if people weigh within a certain amount. These restrictive diets can certainly help people to lose weight, but they often put all their weight back on - a yo-yo cycle which plays havoc with metabolism.

Yes, my friend does the 16/8 fasting. She likes it and it suits her, whereas I wake up hungry and want my breakfast. :sneaky:

I am not in favour of these diets. We have a mouth, we put food in to it. My suggestion is do not put so much in it and avoid junk.

I know it's different for everyone but the way my metabolism works I never miss a meal no large meals eat through the day for me I have to feed my metabolism I have been 82k for many years, used to be 6foot 1 inch I think I've shrunk a bit

Be careful and safe on any weight loss journey. We all need to be honest and admit that we all want to drop a few kilos. I tried protein shakes, and had seizures due to low body salt. If not witnessed by my husband, I would have died. Was in ICU for a week. Talk to your doctor first. It’s not worth your life to lose a few kilos! Gezabel1.
