  2. Fill the pot with water up to the base of the basket.

I've used the jar method and yes it works fine but you have to shake it hard and for quite a long while. I have never thought to steam eggs but I'll give it a go next time.:):)

I am 75 and that is the way my mother cooked her boiled eggs. Salt in the water when you are cooking them also helps get the shell off easily. Nothing new here.

Put raw eggs in a pot, fill up with cold water over the top of eggs. Put on stove. When the water start boiling, turn off the gas/power, let stand for 15 min. Put eggs in very cold water. Let stand for a few min. Crush the shell on the egg in small pieces banging it on hard surface and pour cold water from the tap. Peel. The cold water is going in between the crushed shell and the cooked egg white. Peeling is a sliding breeze. And the eggs are never overcooked!!
 
Steaming rather than boiling is also a better way to cooked cracked eggs as it doesn't float off in the water but adheres to the outside of the shell so you get more egg to use good for salads or for chopped eggs applications.

Why all this hub-bub over a simple boiled egg? 90 years & STILL getting perfect results. Boil your egg for 12 minutes then toss it into freezing water smashing part of the egg shell for the water to slide under the shell for a few minutes. There's no easier way ..

Soooo, do you leave the water boiling? Turn it down? Turn it off? Not very clear!

As soon as the eggs are cool enough to handle l just roll them on the kitchen bench to break the shell then peel.
I was taught to roll them on the draining board by a chef decades ago. It breaks up the shells and they just fall off. Have never had problems peeling eggs since 😁

The fresher the egg the harder to shell. I had that problem yesterday wanting soft boiled eggs. Place in boiling water and cook for 4 minutes. Run cold water over them to cook off. The eggs were cooked perfectly but the shells pulled half the white off. Very disappointing.
