Flight attendants reveal the one common aeroplane behaviour that frustrates them

Ah, air travel. One of the great marvels of the modern world, allowing us to easily traverse the globe and see the beautiful sights this Earth has to offer. Unfortunately, it also comes with some less-than-desirable aspects, such as cramped seating, questionable food, and of course, incidents with fellow passengers that can sometimes leave everyone on board a little miffed.

Well, we're not the only ones occasionally feeling frustrated by the actions of others on our flights. Recently, a group of flight attendants took to social media to reveal one of the aeroplane behaviours that annoys them the most. It's a surprisingly common occurrence and one that happens even before take-off!

In a video titled 'Things that annoy flight attendants', flight attendant Chris Kellum, who works for a budget US airline, highlighted the issue of passengers who don't properly stow their luggage in the overhead lockers or who try to stow severely oversized bags that simply don't fit.

Explaining the importance of following airline rules, Chris said, 'If you place a larger bag in the overhead bin, we ask that you make sure it closes before you take your seat.' The video showed his fellow flight attendant re-enacting the scene where a passenger carelessly crams a bag into the locker, with half of it hanging out.

When confronted, the passenger feigns ignorance, saying, 'I don't get it. The bag fit last time. How come it didn't fit today? What happened? The bag got smaller?'

Not only is this behaviour extremely frustrating to flight attendants, but it also raises safety concerns. In the event of turbulence or an emergency landing, improperly secured luggage could fall out of the overhead bins and harm passengers.

Additionally, it's important to remember that different airlines have different policies regarding luggage allowances, so what might fit on one flight won't necessarily fit on another.

Moreover, Matador Network, a travel brand, explains that some airlines have policies preventing flight attendants from lifting passengers' suitcases, meaning if your bag doesn't fit, it will likely be checked in—sometimes at your expense.

Flight attendant Jamela Hardwick told Insider that trying to help passengers with their luggage is not only a matter of pay but also a question of safety for the crew. 'We do not get paid until the boarding door is closed. If we get hurt while putting that bag in the overhead bin, we do not get to write it off as an on-job injury,' she explained.

Another flight attendant, Kat Kamalani, echoed this sentiment in a video, adding that 'a tonne of airlines tell (flight attendants) not to do this because there are so many injuries with it, so if we get injured, it's not even covered.'

However, Kamalani did note that flight attendants will gladly assist passengers if asked, so don't be afraid to ask for help if needed.

It is pretty obvious that the bag is too big. Why wasn't the passenger stopped before getting on the plane, Ignorant people like this then hold the plane up while their luggage has to be loaded in cargo, where it should have gone in the first.
They should be made to pay a fine as well for the inconvenience they have caused to fellow passengers. There are plenty of places all over the airport where you can check that your in cabin luggage is compliant.
