Fish and Chips in Newspaper

In the day 1965 when I was 7 whilst at school, my immigrant catholic parents gave me 20 cents every Friday to get Fish & Chips. I used to go to teh Fish & Chip place on McCauley Rd in Kensington Victoria and get a large piece of flake (13 cents) 1 potato cake (2 cents) and 5 cents chips and it was huge, especially the chips. It was wrapped in wax paper and newspaper. The fish shop was still operating last time I went to Melbourne in 2019. Best flake ever!!

ah the memories AND IT DIDN'T KILL US. Imagine today's food panicmerchants eating off newspaper
I remember when I was about 10 every Friday night my parents would send me down to the fish and chip shop in Clayton road to get fish and chips for the family, 10 of us at the time. My brother and I used to walk home with these fish and chips but somehow along the way this paper surrounding them would develop a hole. Didn't we enjoy eating the chips on the way home. Tried to tell our parents that the hole got there cause of the way we were carrying them. Don't know why but they didn't believe us. They were yummy newspaper and all. To have your fish and chips wrapped in newspaper today would be like it was a crime. I'm still alive after eating them from newspaper

Back then we only ever got fish and chips once a week if we were lucky. Didn't have all the take aways back then. Kids wouldn't enjoy them the way we did cause most of the time they live on take aways. The
Y don get normal meals like meat and veges or the magnificent roast like we got, specially for a Sunday roast when we also got the dripping sandwich made from the Sunday roast. How delicious 😋
