Find out what moment with Kochie left new Sunrise host Matt Shirvington teary-eyed!

There's one constant that we often take for granted—our long-loved shows and the iconic presenters who grace our screens on a daily basis. One such presenter is David 'Kochie' Koch, a mainstay on Sunrise for 21 years.

As we all know, a new chapter has begun as Kochie bids farewell to the morning show. While we'll undoubtedly miss his impeccable tie game and hilarious dad jokes that brightened our mornings, it's time to embrace a new era.

Stepping down from the spotlight, Kochie leaves behind a legacy of laughter and insightful discussions. But fear not, for with his departure, a fresh breeze of energy sweeps in.

Former Olympic sprinter Matt Shirvington takes the reins as co-host, bringing his own charisma and expertise to the Sunrise team. That's right, the changing of the guard has begun, and Matt Shirvington has shared a sweet and emotional moment he experienced with his predecessor.

Nested warmly into the supportive environment of our beloved Sunrise, Matt recalled an important phone call he had received from the TV veteran. ‘He basically said, “You're going to have the time of your life,”’ Shirvington shared with reporters.

The overwhelmingly positive conversation went even further when Kochie assured him that Shirvington was the right fit for the role. ‘It's such a fun show to work on, and I think the thing that really choked me up was the fact that he said that I was the perfect fit for it,’ Matt revealed.

And what an honour it is to receive for the seasoned athlete and sports presenter, who has also covered his fair share of anchoring already. In fact, for the past 18 months, viewers have seen Shirvington fill in for Kochie when needed, allowing him to ease into the demands of the early morning lifestyle and bond with the familiar faces of the team.

For Shirvington, it's not just about the exciting challenges that lie ahead but the unwavering support from his family during this new adventure. He sweetly shared that his children have been extremely supportive, too, adding that ‘they're proud, very proud’.
