Feast on Australia's finest with these award-winning seafood spots you need to try!

Australia is a nation surrounded by pristine waters, offering a bounty of seafood that's both fresh and delicious.

It's no wonder that fish and chips have become a quintessential Aussie dish enjoyed by the seaside, in the comfort of one's home, or as a quick meal.

With so many options to choose from, where can one find the best fish and chips in The Land Down Under?

Look no further than the picturesque shores of Albany, Western Australia, where this restaurant has been crowned as the nation's top spot for this classic dish.

Hooked on Middleton Beach isn't just another shop; it's a family-owned gem that reeled in the title of Australia's best takeaway fish and chips twice.

Recently lauded at the 2024 National Seafood Industry Awards, they also won the 2018 National Fish and Chips Awards.

These accolades are a testament to their commitment to excellence as they consistently serve quality seafood.

Since opening its doors in 2016, Hooked on Middleton Beach has become more than a place to grab a bite.

The humble restaurant eventually became an institution that prides itself on offering an experience that goes beyond the ordinary.

Owners Hayley and Jeremy Lutley, alongside Hayley's parents, Shane and Janine Vale, poured their hearts into the business.

'We are so honoured to receive this award and are proud to be able to showcase the quality WA seafood we have access to on the amazing south coast of Albany,' the team expressed.

They extended their gratitude to their dedicated staff, customers, and the local fishermen who supply them with the freshest and finest local fish.

The small, family-run business made a big splash in the industry over the past eight years, and their journey is a story of hard work, dedication, and a love for the ocean's bounty.

Fish and chips aside, Hursey Seafoods bagged the best seafood restaurant title during the 2024 National Seafood Industry Awards.

South Australia's Coorong Wild Seafood took home the best seafood experience award, as they showcased the diverse and high-quality seafood offerings across the country.

For those who appreciate the finer things in life, including a good plate of fish and chips, Hooked on Middleton Beach is a destination worth visiting.

Whether you're a local or planning a trip across the country, this award-winning spot promises a taste of the sea that's as fresh as the ocean breeze.

We celebrate the achievements of local businesses that showcase quality Australian seafood.

Soto's Fish and Chip shop in Semaphore, Adelaide, where they actually peel and cook real potatoes, not something out of a plastic bag. The chips are not all the same size and you might have to wait a few minutes more, but they taste like REAL potatoes. And the fish is very good too.
Do any other places still use real potatoes?

Very few.

I do but I don't own a fish and chips shop. I have bought McCains and other brands but they never come out right. So it is straight from peeled and sliced washed potatoes.
Nothing beats lard or dripping for deep frying, except for vegetarians. For some reason, vegans taste lovely when battered and fried in animal fat.

Like everything else these days the price for fish and chips as a family meal has sky-rocketed...so much so that it has become an unviable casual family meal like in days not so long gone. Just another example of of how our national living expenses have gone through the roof. SAD.....very very sad.....there was something special about a family dinner of fish and chips on say a Friday night that was so special somehow. With the meal all wrapped up in newspaper and piping hot when you got it home...unlike a topless box placed inside an open bag these days which often leads to colder meals when you finally get them home from the shop... 🤔😋

Oh my goodness! You are asking for a heart attack both theses fats are so bad.
My brother-in-law loved his bread and dripping ate it everyday and thats what killed him.

Yep vinegar is/was an essential extra for fish and chips and a few pieces of lemon.
I remember walking home with mates after going to the pictures on a Saturday afternoon when I was about 10 and we walked past a fish and chip shop every time....back in the day threepence would buy you a big serve for kids our age and we always ripped open the top of the newspaper wrapping and literally doused the chips with vinegar....the walk home approx. 2 miles was just the best.
