Fact of the Day: The coldest place on Earth
If you think winter's cold is tough, imagine a place where it's freezing year-round! Famed for its extreme conditions, the Soviet Union’s Vostok Station in Antarctica records an average temperature of -62°C. But in 1983, it set the record for the coldest temperature ever at a mind-numbing −89.2°C. This icy expanse certainly makes survival a true challenge, but scientists brave it for an important reason.
