Exposed! Indian Dental Clinic's 'Fake' Reviews Lure Australians with Low-Cost Promises – Don't Trust Until You Read This!

The allure of affordable dental care can be incredibly tempting, especially when faced with the exorbitant costs of dental procedures in Australia. However, a cautionary tale has emerged that serves as a stark reminder to our members at the Seniors Discount Club to be vigilant when considering overseas dental treatments. An Indian dental clinic, Dentzz, which has been marketing cut-price dentistry services to Australians, has recently come under fire for allegations of fake online reviews, price gouging, and substandard care.

Christine Gwin, a retiree from Queensland, shared her harrowing experience after traveling to Mumbai for dental work. Initially attracted by the promise of a more affordable solution to her dental needs, Ms Gwin was quoted between $4,330 and $4,560 for extensive reconstructive work. However, upon arrival, the costs more than tripled to $16,000 after further examination, leaving her in a difficult position far from home.

Despite the unexpected price hike, Ms Gwin proceeded with the treatment, only to find herself in pain from day one. Eleven months later, she continues to suffer from constant pain, temperature sensitivity, a loss of taste, and difficulty eating. Australian dental specialists have since assessed her treatment, estimating that correcting the work done overseas could cost in excess of $50,000.

The situation was further complicated when it was revealed that the clinic's glowing testimonials, which had influenced Ms Gwin's decision, were not all they seemed. Trustpilot, an international review website, detected and removed over 650 fake reviews from Dentzz's profile. Google also took action against policy-violating content on their platform. Despite these actions, Dentzz has denied any wrongdoing, asserting the authenticity of their patient testimonials.

This incident highlights the risks associated with dental tourism, which can include unnecessary treatments, infections, and a lack of legal recourse. The Australian Dental Association (ADA) warns that while some patients may have positive experiences, others return with significant dental issues. The ADA's president, Scott Davis, emphasizes the need for government-funded dentistry in Australia to support vulnerable groups, including seniors and those on low incomes.

In 2023, a Senate committee made several recommendations to improve oral health care in Australia, including considering a Seniors Dental Benefit Scheme and moving toward universal dental care. Unfortunately, the government's response was underwhelming, with no dedicated funding and only a note of the recommendations.

For our members considering overseas dental work, it's crucial to conduct thorough research and seek personal testimonials rather than relying solely on online reviews. While the cost savings may seem appealing, the potential for additional expenses, complications, and the emotional toll of inadequate care can far outweigh the initial benefits.

Key Takeaways

  • An Indian dental clinic targeting Australians with affordable dental services has been accused of posting fake reviews and escalating costs post-consultation.
  • Queensland retiree Christine Gwin experienced a dramatic increase in quoted dental treatment costs upon arrival at the clinic, with the price more than tripling from the initial estimate.
  • After undergoing dental treatment in India, Ms Gwin returned to Australia facing significant pain and complications, resulting in a financial loss and likely costly corrective procedures.
  • Trustpilot and Google have taken action to remove a significant number of fake reviews associated with the dental clinic, highlighting the risks of dental tourism and the importance of thorough research before seeking medical treatment abroad.

Why would you even consider travelling overseas for dental work? We read so many stories of the incredible problems people have faced after seeking medical or dental procedures outside of Australia. I know treatment here can be expensive but at least our dentist’s & doctors have standards to adhere to & there are avenues of complaint if you aren’t completely happy. You do tend to get what you pay for.

I might get a few people upset here, but anything to do with body improvements. Is not a good idea to go overseas. I am very sorry for this lady. She just wanted to sort out problems she has had with her teeth. It's turned into a nightmare and has also layed out her hard earned money. There have been many stories of people going overseas to have plastic surgery and sadly it's been a complete disaster. I understand some people feel they need to seek out plastic surgery for them to feel confident. Sadly l think this poor lady would have been better off having her teeth removed and replacing them with false teeth.
If only people could just be comfortable with the body they have been given.
My son had 13 surgeries from the age of 5 months to 18. So he could look like everyone else. And he was still asked constantly why have you got those scars. Sadly he has been emotionally scarred from all his surgeries and the teasing he suffered through out most of his childhood and adolescence.
My husband and I paid a fortune for his dental care but since leaving home l believe he has not set foot in a dentist surgery.
We just have to be happy with who we are.
Kind regards to all Vicki

She's lucky she didn't wake up in an ice-bath, missing two kidneys.
Seriously? India?

I'm sorry Christine Gwin but your first mistake was to travel to India in the first place. Dental treatment or no dental treatment.

Speaking of wanting to look better for no valid reason, an ex girlfriend wanted to travel to Thailand for a breast enhancement procedure to save several thousand dollars. There was no valid reason as she was 40DD to start with!!

My brother in law lives in France and he travelled to Budapest with the hopes of getting his teeth done cheaper. It cost him the airfare, 1 weeks accomodation, the dentist fee for looking at his teeth, x-rays and 2 teeth pulled just to be told he would have to make many more appointments to get the rest of his teeth done. When he went back home he worked it out to have his teeth done in Budapest it was going to cost more than if he got them done on Paris. Buyer beware should be attached to these so called deals

Well some people are simply "Brain Dead" if the think that they are going to get a Good Deal by going overseas.

How many more times to we have to read abt other peoples stupidity & then, there they are seeking sympathy from us.
No sorries from me.
