Elderly woman defends herself against attacker with her walker

In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, a Melbourne grandmother has shown that age and mobility aids are no barriers when it comes to self-defence.

The elderly woman, who has become an unexpected hero, used her walker to fend off an alleged sexual predator during a harrowing encounter in her apartment complex.

The incident, which took place on Simmons Street in South Yarra, has sent shockwaves through the local community.

According to reports, the offender waited for 45 minutes before making his move as the woman entered a lift around 2 p.m. on April 1st.

The situation escalated rapidly when the man exposed himself to the elderly woman and followed her out of the lift to another floor, where he proceeded to sexually assault her.

Despite the fear and surprise of such an attack, her instinct to protect herself kicked in.

She cried out for help and used her walker as a means of defence.

The attacker allegedly threatened her life, saying, 'I come back and kill you.’

Her actions, combined with the timely intervention of a bystander who scared the assailant away, ultimately saved her from further harm.

The offender fled on foot, leaving the elderly woman shaken but alive. She was taken to the hospital to recover from the ordeal.

Her story is not just a tale of survival but also a stark reminder of the importance of safety and security measures in our living spaces.

The elderly woman, who had called the area home for 25 years, expressed her disappointment at the lack of security cameras in the stairwell where the assault occurred.

Such measures could have provided an added layer of protection or at least a deterrent to potential offenders.

She mentioned that the incident had left her scared to live alone and made her want to move.

Detective Senior Constable Andrew Turton, who is involved in the case, condemned the attack, emphasising that such behaviour is utterly unacceptable and particularly disturbing given its targeted nature.

‘When he was in the lift with the victim he propositioned her for for a sexual act and offered money to her for that sexual act,’ he shared.

‘This offending is not acceptable... What's more disturbing is that it appears to be targeted.’

The police have since released CCTV footage in the hopes of apprehending the man responsible for this crime.

Victoria Police described the offender in a social media post: ‘He is perceived to be of Asian appearance, in his mid-20s about 180cm tall with short shaved black hair and unkempt facial hair.’

‘He was last seen wearing a black hooded jumper with the word “Jordan” written on the back along with black pants and black sneakers,’ the police said.

DISCLAIMER: The article states that the perpetrator is Asian so being Chinese constitutes being Asian. Apologies to the other Asian countries I have left out.

Keep a few telescopic walking sticks only open at half length laying around the house. Super glue the handle in so it can't come out and add a good wrist strap to wrap around your wrist. Use them to shatter some shin bones or a wack in the balls will lay them out quick. Use zip ties to restrain them until police arrive. even better still buy some peices of steel rod and insert them into the walking sticks for extra strength, power and damage. Get them before they get you.

The threat to 'come back and kill her' is in itself a crime.... I can only hope that measures are taken against this person.

Unfortunately it’s known that weapons are often used against you. Elderly would not be able to hold on
