Don't throw them out yet! An 'unlikely' item can give your home a five-star hotel look on a budget

We, here at the SDC, are huge fans of any and all tips that might make our personal spaces look more elegant and put-together. And we know that, like us, you members are constantly on the hunt for such ideas, too.

That is why we're happy to share with you a styling trick that's as easy as it is effective. We bet that as soon as you see this one, you'll be running to try it right away!

Most of us will have drapes in our homes. However, once you have mounted them on the rod and raised them to the window, they seem quite different.

You slide them to the right, then to the left, hoping to achieve the same neat bunching and folding seen in countless marketing photos, but it just never quite works out that way! Something is still off about the way they look...

But little do you know – there is a 'hidden' trick to this one, as revealed by a creative Kmart shopper on social media!

Posting on a popular Facebook group, the savvy home decorator revealed that there is an unlikely item that she uses to give her curtains that 'five-star hotel' look.

And that item is… a few empty toilet paper rolls!

Yes, you read that right, folks – the stuff that most of us throw away after using in the bathroom can be used for something other than filling up your rubbish bin.

You might be asking: how exactly does she glam up her curtains with these empty rolls of toilet paper?

Here, we'll teach you the ins and outs of the hack. You can also watch the video below to see how this toilet paper trick works:

First, grab your curtain and start to put it through the rod. But instead of doing it the normal way and threading the whole curtain into the rod, first put a roll of toilet paper on each side of the eyelet (the metal ring).

Only include one for the eyelets/pleats that will be hidden at the back of the curtain.

By putting the cardboard rolls between each pleat on the curtain, the material is more spread out, giving the curtains a more professional and polished look.

And once they're mounted by the windows, we guarantee you'll be shocked at how different they look from your typical curtains! Just take a look at the before and after photos below:

The woman's post attracted a huge response on the Kmart Home Decor & Hacks Australia Facebook group, with thousands of her fellow members saying they were 'blown away' by the simple idea.

'Oh wow, now that's a hack,' said one user in the comments. Another added: 'This is pure genius!'

A third user said they can't believe they didn't think of this one before, adding: 'Wow, I have the same problem, and now I'm gonna start collecting rolls. Thanks, heaps for the tip!'

You read it here, folks! Think carefully about tossing out the used toilet paper rolls on the floor; there are plenty of other places they can be put to good use.

Please feel free to add your two cents on the topic below if you've got any more suggestions for how we can all make our homes better. Your insights are greatly appreciated, and we always look forward to hearing more from you!

very useful for tidying electric leads. Just roll them over your hand and then gently push through a toilet roll, nice and tidy and easier to find.
