As a show of respect to an iconic figure in our country, the Royal Australian Mint has recently unveiled the final design of a coin featuring Queen Elizabeth II's profile.

Since ascending the throne in 1953, six portraits of Her Majesty have appeared on Australian coins and currency.

As a tribute to her reign and legacy (which sadly came to end this September following her death at the age of 96), we now know what design will feature in the coins for the last time - and it's something special indeed!

The coin will be released sometime in January 2023 so be sure you get your hands on one!

Of course, existing coins featuring Her Majesty's profile will still remain legal tender; however, over time, collectors' editions such as these become rarer, so don't miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime chance to own an important piece of history.

Existing coins with Her Majesty's portrait may soon disappear as plans are currently underway by the Australian Government for a smooth transition to King Charles III for (nearly) all future released coins instead.

This changeover is expected to occur around late 2023 (with plans to announce the coin's first design early next year), so before then, there'll be plenty of time for all royal followers across Australia to begin collecting these beautiful pieces that honour one remarkable woman.

In a statement, Royal Australian Mint CEO Leigh Gordon said: 'Our fundamental obligation is to ensure that circulating coins are available for all Australians.'

'Until circulating coins with the effigy of King Charles III have been produced, the Mint will continue to service the demand for coins using the standard 2022 Queen Elizabeth obverse.'

I doubt we will be able to get even one! With the 2022 $2 Red Poppy people got so many of them & are Re selling at high prices. Whereas people like us the true coin collector miss out. No idea why the Mint let people buy so many. Should be shared equally! A lot of greedy people around these days.
