Doctor reveals the grocery items you should include in your shopping list to LIVE LONGER

There is a ton of evidence to show that living a healthier life by making positive changes to your diet and lifestyle can help you live longer.

A balanced diet is important for a healthy body and a healthy brain as our brains need the essential nutrients to function properly. However, we are sure this is obvious to all of you!

We here at the SDC are doing our best in our capacity to help our dear members stay healthy by providing you quality information for keeping yourself in good health.

Having mentioned that, we would like to share with you a list of grocery items that you should keep an eye out for a brain-healthy pantry.

Top psychiatrist Dr Daniel Amen has taken to Facebook to share his go-to grocery items to keep him sustained throughout the week.

The brain specialist said that your mindset plays a key role in your food choices, emphasising that a focus on 'deprivation' or a negative attitude will make you feel sicker and 'foggier' for longer.

'Your attitude, or mindset, may be the single most important factor in feeling better fast. When your mindset is one of deprivation and your focus is on what you cannot have, you are more likely to remain mired in illness and brain fog,' he wrote.

The renowned celebrity psychiatrist also advised against sugary fast foods and beverages, claiming that these items can cause inflammation and illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, depression, dementia, and early death.

Sources of healthy fat, such as coconut, almond or macadamia-nut oils, guacamole, and almond or coconut butter and spreads, should be at the top of your shopping list as these contain the essential nutrients for the brain.

Dr Amen also included protein powder, coconut wraps, quinoa, raw, unsalted seeds and nuts like chia flax or hemp and frozen or fresh fruit like strawberries, blueberries and raspberries as brain-healthy foods.

As for the sweeteners, using alternatives such as Stevia or Sweetleaf is better than using sugar.

Other sweeteners include the antioxidant-packed goji berry powder and maca root — a Peruvian vegetable said to have a variety of health benefits.

yes - live longer so you can be locked in a retirement home, fed on pain killers. Just enjoy every moment life while you have it. I have always eaten well but do not eat horrible food just to live longer. I want to enjoy the taste of my meal, its one of the pleasures of life.

What is wrong with olive oil? I always thought it's good for you. Of course, butter is not on the list either, or any meat, so it looks that you need to give up many lovely foods that you like to live very long.
I agree with Rooshin and others that food is not only something you "take" like tablets, it's a delight to eat and to be enjoyed. 🍧🍒🫐🍷🥑

I guess from his list that he has a fair amount of money to spend on his diet. The size of portions on a lot of his fruit etc. is minimal compared to cost. That rules most out of my diet. I'll just have to go the poor mans route on a pension.
