Love the English BUT this reminds me of a joke!
How can you tell when a plane lands in Australia that it is full of English settlers?
Because the whining doesn't stop when they turn of the engines.

I know Aussies and Pohms clash, even though most Aussies are from Pohms.... such irony.
I guess it's the rivalry of one's home, more so than your heritage... I blame it on sport!
I prefer using the original POHM, (Prisoner Of Her Majesty) and POM reminds me of a Toy Pom dog (and I'm a huge animal lover and don't like offending them)!
Just kidding... (I'm 25% Pohm, my paternal grandmother was a Pohm too)!

At the time of the largest immigration from Britain to Australia (from 1945) when the word POHM appeared, Queen Elizabeth II was ruling, so it was likely referring to HER. I'm assuming that is how most people interpret POHM, after all, they were HER prisoners then.

TOY POM or POM, is also shortened - from POMERANIAN, originating from Pomerania, now split between Germany and Poland.

That may be so, but it appears that the word POHM was used/invented only after WWII, when the largest groups were sent.
