Discover the Kmart items a professional organiser would NEVER put in her cart!

At the Seniors Discount Club, we are big fans of bargains and saving where we can. So naturally, we love a Kmart visit just as much as the next person. Known for its affordable range, Kmart not only offers great value but has a variety of products that can match any high-end brand when it comes to home organisation solutions.

But should we be putting our trust in every item that has a budget-friendly price tag? This expert thinks otherwise.

A professional organiser and Sydney-based businesswoman, Anita Birges, revealed to her 71,000 followers on social media that not all that glitters is gold (or, in this case, not all that is priced cheaply is a good buy).

That’s why there are experts to guide us through the aisles of do's and don'ts in the shopping world.

According to Anita, who helps others organise their homes for a living, there are three products that she would always dodge during her Kmart shopping spree: expandable plastic hangers, expandable drawer dividers, and the glass canisters with bamboo lids.

She said that just because these three necessities are commonly used does not mean that they are worth it.

Now, let's discuss them in more detail.

The expandable plastic hangers, she alleged, are distinctly subpar in terms of their sturdiness. They're flimsier than one would expect from such a practical item.

Meanwhile, she claims the expandable drawer dividers don’t stay put, moving everywhere except where they're supposed to be.

The final product on Anita’s ‘not recommended’ list is the popular glass canisters with bamboo lids. According to her, these have failed spectacularly in the one role they are primarily assigned—keeping food fresh.

‘They’re not airtight, and the lids don't hold their own,’ she claimed.

Anita isn't the only one unimpressed by these products. Many of her followers chimed in with their own experiences.

‘To be fair, most Kmart things break easily,’ one shared.

Another replied: ‘I wish someone told me about the bamboo glass canisters. My milo was rock hard when I went to go use it!’

‘I spent $250 on canisters from Kmart with a clear handle on the lid – all broke within a week, and Kmart did nothing about the issue. Be careful what you buy,’ someone else shared.

Meanwhile, someone said: ‘I’ve got three of the bamboo canisters, and they’re all pretty airtight. You can hear and feel the air expel when you push the lid down.’

‘It depends on what they are for. The canisters are excellent for a lot of things. I use mine to store cotton pads, tampons, makeup brushes, lollies etc.,’ another added.

‘I use the drawer separators and never had a problem with them,’ someone else replied.

Another follower stated that they’ve also been using the dividers for a long time and shared they work fine for them.

Despite Anita calling out these Kmart items, she remains a firm fan of the store.

She even spotlights some Kmart gems in her other videos, like the $8 file rack for seamlessly organising cooking trays, which you can find here, and $10 wall hooks for hanging kids' coats and backpacks.

Remember, being savvy with your purchases isn’t just about the price. It’s about the quality and utility that the product brings to your life.

Take Anita’s professional advice into consideration and navigate the Kmart aisles with a little bit more confidence and a whole lot more knowledge!

I have looked at those items in store and thought the same thing as this person.
I’m no professional organiser or expert but I do use common sense.
Another useless article from SDC.

I have no experience with the products mentioned but I have purchased many times there. The items sold there come from overseas, often made in "sweat shops" . Cheaper quality hence cheaper prices. As long as you keep that in mind and don't mind if the product might not last like items from years gone by, no a problem. Personally I prefer to pay more and purchase once for some items.

Actually, I'd say the article is not useless at all because it puts people on notice.

SDC should focus on information and tips that may benefit us and save us money. This article does just that.

Some potential buyers would not buy following the influencer's advice and this would save them money in these tight times.

Others might still buy but choose to try one item to use, wait and see the item's worth over time also saving on expenditure initially and even over the long term if the item fails.

Some of K Marts products are perfectly fine and worth the cheaper price, you just have to be smart about what you get. I bought some shelves for the pantry from Howard storage that cost a fortune that were obviously great. And later bought more of the same, far far cheaper from K Mart and they do the same job, no problem. Wish I had seen them first and saved myself alot of money.

I don't need an influencer to tell me what to buy and what not to buy.

Having said this, I wouldn't be buying any plastic hangers, nor would I buy the dividers. As for the glass jars, they look quite nice and it all depends on what you use them for.

I've bought Decor glass canisters from Woolworths, when on special. They look the same as the Kmart ones. I find the Decor ones have a good seal, and it keeps flour fresh in the pantry.

I just bought the glass jars with bamboo lids 3days ago and I did notice my sugar was a bit hard the day after putting it in so I just twisted the lid a bit when I put it back on and that seams to have fixed the problem 👍 I actually bought five of them and I’d like another 2 in the larger size, they are so pretty
