Did you know Kmart is offering a 'secret' discount for pensioners?

Here at the SDC, we are always on the lookout for ways to save money. We're not called a 'discount' club for nothing!

We understand just how challenging it can be to make ends meet these days, and we strive to bring interesting and unique money-saving tips and tricks to you, members.

Today, we'd like to share a little-known tip about Kmart that millions of Aussie shoppers—especially seniors—may not be aware of.

Did you know that Kmart offers customers a 5 per cent discount on the first Wednesday of every month? Yes, you read that right! But you might be wondering why you've never heard of this offer…

Well, there's a requirement you need to meet to take advantage of it! The discount is available only for holders of Commonwealth Government Pensioner Concession Cards or Commonwealth Government Department of Veterans Affairs Health Cards.

So, if you're a pensioner and have either of these cards, you're in luck! Unfortunately, any state or territory-issued Senior Card does not qualify. (Please take a look at the photo above to see which cards are accepted.)

Wondering how to get the discount? If you have a Government Approved Pension Card, it's quite simple. Just show your card to the staff when you make an in-store purchase, and the discount will be applied automatically.

However, please note that this discount is not applicable for online purchases; it's only valid for in-store items. The discount is also available at all Kmart stores across the country.

The news has left thousands of Aussies stunned, with many saying they had no idea about the deal.

On social media, one shopper exclaimed, 'OMG, what?' This sentiment was echoed by another individual who commented, 'I didn't know that! I wonder how long they've been doing that?'

Many others also shared their shock at discovering what they referred to as the 'secret' discount at Kmart. For instance, one user mentioned, 'I'm on disability and had no idea this was a thing!'

Another person added, 'This will help out my parents so much, what a thing to find out!'

However, not everyone had a positive experience trying to access the discount. Some shoppers reported being treated rudely and told that such a discount didn't exist.

For instance, one user shared, 'My mum went to Kmart today and tried to get this and was told rudely that she was wrong and told it was ridiculous!'

Interestingly, one shopper even argued that not even Kmart staff were aware of this offer. They pointed out that not many team members are informed about the discount, saying, 'They don't get told about it.'

They also urged people not to get upset with the staff if they are unaware of the discount.

Given these mixed experiences, we recommend our members remain calm and patient when requesting the discount to avoid potential conflicts with store staff.

We also suggest reaching out to your local store beforehand to inquire about the discount program, ensuring that they are aware of the discount being offered.

Key Takeaways

  • Kmart has confirmed that it is offering a little-known monthly discount to selected Australian customers.
  • The discount, a 5 per cent off their shopping bill, is available to Commonwealth Government Pensioner Concession Cards and Commonwealth Government Department of Veterans Affairs Health Cards holders.
  • The offer does not extend to Commonwealth and State Government seniors cards.
  • The discount news surprised many Australians, with some saying they were unaware of the Kmart offer.

While a 5 per cent discount may not seem like much, we understand the value of every saving! This can be especially helpful when you're planning to buy in bulk or considering purchasing electronics.

So, if you're gearing up for some early holiday shopping, take note, folks! Make sure to mark the first Wednesday of the upcoming months and plan your shopping accordingly.

I wonder how it works for self checkout because my Kmart doesn’t always have a manned checkout open?
You can't use it at the self checkouts. You need to go to the staffed ones then they will probably have to find someone who knows how to do it. We have used it a couple of times but it took a while to find a team member who knew what to do. Patience is the key here!

Some of us live very close to K Mart so not a problem where or when. It is unfortunate not everyone is in the same position but you do have to factor in time and fuel etc.

It seems to be that always the people with only a Senior Card are missing out , although most are hard working people or have been and now retired but get very little discount . Maybe some people may not know that your local IGA gives discount if you have a Senior card as well . Some teller staff give it to you straight away , but often you have to ask for it and they give it to you without any questions . It might not be much , but everything helps.

Funny how this story comes out two days after the discount applies.

Anybody else notice?
Why "funny"? What's your point?

I read this same story, word for word, on this very site 2-3 years ago. It's good that SDC have repeated it to help newer members.

Not everything is a sinister plot 🙄
