Did you know about this sneaky detail hidden in the Chemist Warehouse logo?

Chemist Warehouse is a household name throughout Australia.

But did you know that they have a sly little detail hidden in their logo?

A recent post on social media pointed out an easy-to-miss detail on the store’s sign that has left many people stunned.

On the front of many Chemist Warehouse stores, the store's slogans in their distinctive colours include 'Chemist Warehouse', 'Discount Chemist' and 'Australia’s Cheapest Chemist'.

‘Have you ever noticed that Chemist Warehouse has all those big signs saying “AUSTRALIA’S CHEAPEST CHEMIST!”’ an eagle-eyed social media user noted.

‘But if you look closer, it has “is this?” in small writing before it.’

The tiny detail has stunned many social media users, with one saying: ‘I never noticed that!’

‘Never, ever noticed that before. Who knew,’ another said.

While a third noted: ‘I can’t believe that! Never noticed.’

This subtlety has also been noted before on another social media platform, where one shopper pointed out the 'sneaky' wording.

'Lawyer: “Guys, technically, we can’t call ourselves Australia’s cheapest, because really - we’re not. Any ideas?” Marketing Guy: “OK! I’ve got it..”' the user wrote.

'It took me a solid two minutes to work out what was wrong with that sign.'

‘I actually drove by one today and had to chuckle at the stupid slogan and poor disclaimer,’ another said.

And a third added: ‘Genius. Had to squint for the punchline.’

It’s arguably an ingenious way to get around the limitation of not always being the cheapest chemist in Australia, but still being able to advertise being the ‘cheapest’.

Australia’s consumer law is quite clear about false or misleading content in commerce, stating that it's forbidden to make false or deceptive claims about products or services.

Companies must ensure that their advertising does not mislead or deceive the public, even if unintentionally. Chemist Warehouse cleverly keeps within bounds with their humorous question mark addition.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is the one keeping an eagle eye on all these ads. It has a key role in regulating advertising across the country and has a hefty influence on the marketing strategies businesses embrace. Failure to comply with their rules, companies may face hefty fines or even legal action.

It's not all about being the cheapest either–businesses can’t exaggerate the benefits of their products or services, hide any important information, or make false claims.

Key Takeaways
  • Social media users were left surprised by a detail in the Chemist Warehouse logo and branding.
  • An eagle-eyed shopper pointed out the small text 'Is this?' preceding the large slogan 'Australia's Cheapest Chemist.'
  • The observation led to an explosion of reactions on social media, with many admitting they had never noticed.
  • The issue, which has sparked discussions on multiple social media platforms, led to humourous suggestions about disclaimers and marketing tactics.

FINE PRINT is the advertising world's method of not telling the truth or the whole story. Look at all the Adds on TV, I can't read the fine print on a 50 inch screen. Look at ANZ banks latest issue of "NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES" also read the content very very carefully, they are taking less responsibility for scams and making you more responsible. ALL legal documents. Insurance, PDF's etc are written in small print for the same reasons.

It's not sneaky at all! By claiming they are the cheapest chemist, they would leave themselves wide open to challenges and costly court cases for false advertising because someone finds simething cheaper at another chemist.

By adding these two words, they cannot be accused of false advertising.

As my nearest Chemist Warehouse is more than a 20 minute drive away, it has very limited influence on me. I fin d them to be disorganised, cluttered and difficult to navigate. My local Chemist might be a dollar or two more expensive but they deliver everything for free, know me personally, call me by name when I'm in store and often have advice or information that is invaluable. I know where I'd rather shop.

Always knew it was there, what's wrong with people. If you didn't notice it that's your problem
Personally I think on the whole you.would be pushing to find a Chemist with such a wide range of stock and cheaper
I shop there, on line, all the time and buy everything when 1/2 price.
I agree on the cheapest price, unfortunately they do not offer delivery on all of their products advertised on their on-line shopping site. I shopped with them for years until they changed to click and collect for the majority of their products, no good for me now the closest store to where I live is 400km away

The addition of a simple little squiggle -- it's known as a query to the cognoscenti -- after the word "chemist" might've made things a bit clearer. But, then again, I doubt it.

I used to do all my online shopping at Chemist Warehouse but now they charge for delivery I go to another online chemist who does not charge if you spend over 50 dollars. Which is what Chemist Warehouse "used" to do.
