Developing and printing film

Remember the good old days of snapping photos on film and eagerly waiting to get them developed and printed? Those were when your go-to spots were Kmart, BIG W, or the local Chemist. Digital photos weren't a thing back then, and people had to savour every shot on a 36-exposure film roll. Sure, you could buy another roll, but that added up, didn't it? Such a far cry from the instant gratification of today's digital world…

Had a chance to process films manually once. Dark rooms are scary places

I remember posting films away to be developed and waiting eagerly for them to be returned, then being so excited to look at the photos. We also used to get slides developed. Have hundreds of photos and slides. I remember when cameras that produced instant photos first came out and everyone rushed to get them. My father in law used to develop his own photos back in the 40s,50s and 60s. We have some really great photos he developed, from is kids to landscapes and everything else. He won prizes for his photography, he had one of his photos on a NSW train back in the day when trains had photos in the carriages. He also had photos of a local flood used in a government enquiry as to why the Hunter river broke its banks in a new area during a flood back in the 1950s. My daughter went through a stage of developing her own colour and black and white films, in our 2nd bathroom, when she was younger. She did some great work and won several photo competitions she entered them in. We still have all her developing stuff in our linen cupboard. Must donate it to local museum one day. Some of it was from father in laws collection.

What I hated was waiting aweek to pick them up only to find out half never turned out.

I'm finding now alot of my photos are fading .

I actually wished we had the phones that we have today, back then !

We have alot of super 8 films and my kids all put in and got them put on a hard drive. I love now that I can watch them on my laptop at any time. Hubby still prefers the big screen on the wall.
Gosh we paid like $25 for a 3 min film and that was around 35 years ago

Nowadays people use their mobiles to take many photos at any time. Back in the day we had to organise the camera, make sure we had purchased a roll of film and then carefully loading it into the camera ready for the big outing or event. It was usually a few days wait to get them developed and then see how they came out. If we cut someone's head off we couldn't edit it. But it was still a lot of fun and sometimes we even took a great shot!
