Deb's Dollar Dazzlers: From Relish to Rewards – Stretch Your Dollar Further

Note from the Editor:

This article was kindly written for the SDC by member @Deejay11. This week, Deb has some fantastic tips for getting $20 off your groceries every fortnight and a long-lasting tomato relish recipe using pantry staples.

Competitions:

If you are considering entering competitions, it may be worthwhile creating a new email address, as you’ll quickly find your inbox filling up with mail from promoters. Remember, you can always unsubscribe from emails, but you should stay subscribed while any competition you entered is still running (that’s often in the T&Cs).

Don’t forget to take note of the start date/end date in the T&Cs. It’s not good if you’ve run out and bought a product to enter, then discover the competition closed the previous day. ☹

There are many online sites that run AFL/NRL tipping competitions. My favourite is sportsbet.com.au, which offers free tipping. Things have changed since I joined, but I found this link: Getting Started – Sportsbet Help Centre, which steps new members through the signing-up process. You will need to submit an ID to verify your account. Why do I like sportsbet tipping? Once you have a login, go to 'Tipping & Games' on the left-hand side, and you can tip weekly for AFL, NRL or both. Every week, for both codes, those who pick the most winners in the round (one or many people) share $7,500. Out of these winners, closest to the points difference (one or many people) share another $2,500. It’s fun to participate, even if you know nothing about AFL or NRL. 😊

I’ve won minor prizes from the $7,500, which I’ve chosen to back on random horses, rather than withdrawing my winnings from Sportsbet.

Thanks for your hints and for the delicious relish recipe.
I do the Woman's Weekly and Better Homes & Gardens crossword competitions.
Haven't won anything recently but did win a few smaller prizes a while ago. I had one great win a white leather lounge and chaise, used it for two years and recently sold it for $600, not bad for a freebie.

Good luck with future crosswords! I used to enter them a few years back, and won a couple of minor prizes. I’ve just recently started “crosswording” again, no wins yet. The lounge sounds a great win and resale. I once sold a camera at a bargain-box price, as I’d already bought one for myself. The buyer who turned up at my house was a guy I vaguely knew from my work, who kept insisting I lower my price even more because I’d won it. He was insistently rude! Anyway, I stuck to my guns, and got my cheap price.

Good luck with your future crosswords.

I had the opposite experience with the purchaser of my lounge. Not only did he not argue about the price, but he actually gave me an extra $50 for helping him to load it on his Ute. I said it wasn't necessary but he insisted.
I had two wins that day. Had advertised my car for sale. Had recently downsized to a smaller car. The car yard offered me $2,000 for a trade in on my Camry Hybrid.
They think because you are a woman on your own you're stupid. I advertised it for $12,000.wanted $10 000. Later that day a guy drove 3 hours from the city to where I live. gave me $10 000 cash.
Turned out he was a car dealer. He sold it for $16 000.
