Cut your cleaning time in half with these 5 simple steps and an unlikely cleaning tool

Cleaning is one of those necessary, unavoidable, day-to-day activities that we all have to do, no matter how much we try to avoid it. We mean, life is hectic enough as it is, so cleaning can sometimes become yet another chore that stresses us out and takes up valuable time we'd rather spend with our loved ones.

No matter how hard we try, it usually takes up more time and energy than we’d like. Plus, it can be a real pain to have to bend over and scrub up all those dirty spots on the floor that are right below our eye level.

So, how can we cut down the time we spend on housework, and make sure our homes stay clean and tidy with minimal effort on our part?

If you’re looking for an easier way to get the cleaning done, one mum has revealed how using one cleaning tool can make your chores much simpler.

According to Chantel Mila, a Melbourne-based mum who has become an online sensation for her effective cleaning tips, all you need to help you get cleaning done in record time is this tool and a few simple steps.

That’s right, you can cut your cleaning time in half using a spin mop – the very same one you’d use for tiled and timber floors around the house.

Who’d have thought a simple spin mop could be used for so many other tasks? Not us, that’s for sure!

Chantel has been kind enough to share her five steps to drastically reduce your cleaning time - and they’re very easy to follow:

1. Removing tough grease from kitchen cabinets

Chantel uses her mop to clean her kitchen cabinetry. This often becomes covered with dirt and grease from cooking and grimy hands, for those who are living with their grandkids, so just mix some warm water and a small amount of dish soap to help clean up quickly and easily. Then, run the mop up and down the walls - effortless!

2. Getting rid of cobwebs from the ceiling without using a ladder

She also uses it to reach high places, such as wall tiles and cobwebs, to save her from having to use a ladder.

However, she cautioned that you should only do this when your mop is dry as the moisture from the wet mop could trap the dust and cobwebs in the strands, making the dirt difficult to remove when you wash it.

3. Clean bathroom walls and tiles

Chantel uses a simple concoction of warm water and dish soap to remove soap scum and grime from her bathroom tiles. She also said that she uses the spin mop to reach the spots that she cannot normally reach.

4. Tidy up bathtubs without hurting your back

There's no denying that cleaning the bathtub is one of the most frustrating house chores. Aside from the seemingly endless scrubbing to get rid of the soap scum and hard water buildup, the effort you exert at bending your back just to reach every corner of the tub is just too much for us to handle.

Well, Chantel has the perfect tip — use a spin mop to scrub the tub. Using the same concoction of warm water and dish soap, she mopped the dirt out of the tub before rinsing it with water.

5. Deodorise baseboards and walls

Finally, Chantel suggests mixing warm water, dish soap and your favourite essential oil to clean your walls and baseboards. Not only will it clean stubborn dirt, but it will leave your home smelling amazing too!

Bonus tip: For those of you who are looking for the ideal mop, Chantel recommends getting one with washable covers so you can use different heads for different areas of the home.

I wet my car and use a broom and a bucket of soapy water to scrub it, then rinse.
