Customers share their outrage as prices of one popular egg brand go through the roof!

In the ever-changing landscape of grocery prices, Australian shoppers are no strangers to the occasional sticker shock.

Yet, the latest price hike at Woolworths left customers with more than just raised eyebrows.

Many shoppers were outraged as one pantry staple rose to unbelievable prices.

A dozen of Pace Farms Jumbo 800g Eggs now comes at a whopping $10.20.

The news of the price surge spread like wildfire after a Woolworths customer voiced their disbelief on social media.

'Are Woolworths done taking the p***?' they asked in the post, accompanied by a screenshot from the Woolworths website.

'A dozen of eggs now costs $10.20?' they continued.

The price hike was not a case of supermarket mark-up.

The price increase is a direct result of a hike from Pace Farms itself.

According to a statement released by Pace Farms last 27 June, the egg industry has been hit hard by the recent avian influenza outbreak.

This, in turn, wreaked havoc on poultry farms nationwide.

Pace Farms also explained that they were implementing 'additional grading capacity at other locations' to mitigate the impact on egg availability.

Being one of Australia's largest egg producers, they acknowledged the potential effects this situation could have on customers and consumers.

'We are working as quickly as possible to rectify this situation,' they assured.

However, the path to stabilisation is rocky, as egg prices reflect the suppliers' struggles.

While Pace Farms has not commented further on the situation, Woolworths started offering alternatives for shoppers.

The supermarket giant started selling a range of eggs at various price points, including a budget-friendly Woolworths brand.

Yet, for those who prefer jumbo-sized eggs, it's either they pay the premium or switch to alternatives for the time being.

For our readers, this price hike is more than just a minor inconvenience.

With fixed incomes and careful budgeting a reality for many shoppers, price increases could have a significant impact on weekly grocery bills.

It's a stark reminder of the importance of shopping around and being open to trying different brands that may offer better value for money.

I don’t mind paying that price if I am actually getting jumbo eggs. The ones I bought last week should have been 900 ones and when I got home most were smaller than the 600 ones I had left from previous. I always bought my eggs from the farm gate but I’m not able to do that since we moved.

Why is there so much stupidity in people rushing to social media to rant about petty issues...time to grow up, use your brain and ask the question to those concerned...NOT TOTAL BLOODY STRANGERS!
This is a discussion forum so all sorts of issues that affect people are brought up. If you are not interested don't read any further and it's not necessary to comment but alot of people are. And for some people possibly this is their main point of social contact each day so if you knocked half the content out that will leave little

Well said @darrellh.

At 84 and a pensioner have seen it all. Re the eggs , when people are on the land so to speak what do we think they should do ? They either put prices up and we adjust or they go under. The idea of different price points on goods is a great idea.
If I had to ditch a luxury item for an egg would do it in a heartbeat.

I would have thought that was the reason for discussion groups like this. If you don’t like people freely expressing opinions then leave the group. Simples.

It beats me how everything seems to be geared to what’s happening in the East I understand Avian flue is affecting the eastern States so why should we pay their prices. Surely there are plenty of eggs produced locally? Insurance , I’m informed has gone up with the Eastern floods and there hasn’t been any here. And if
You can’t buy locally grow your own or get some chooks

I go to an egg "farm" in Landsborough (QLD) and pay $12.20 for a tray of 30 eggs, they are super jumbo size.
Yes, it is a 45 minute round trip but we enjoy the drive, gets us out of the house. At the beginning of the year we bought six trays with an average of 98% of the eggs double yokers.
BTW not all the trays are for us, our neighbour, cleaning lady and her daughter take a tray.

Could be a bit of gouging there.
The disease issue that caused the destruction of over 240,000 hens would create a shortage for sure.
But the remaining hens are not consuming the same amount of food, so one would not expect the price to go up much.
The producers need to sterilise premises, and restock with healthy point-of-lay hens, so there is an unexpected cost for them (not to mention the costs of destruction of the suspect hens.)

Go easy on them.
Things will normalise in time - supply and demand will sort it.
Producers have expenses too, and this came as a huge financial shock to them.

Instead of moaning about the expensive one, they can buy this one for $1.70 less or just buy extra large which are cheaper.
