Customer horrified to find 'sewage' spill in supermarket's deli area: 'It stinks'

As the primary source of fresh produce and deli meats for thousands of customers every day, supermarkets have a responsibility to adhere to the highest possible standards of cleanliness and food safety.

Customers have every right to complain about the cleanliness of their local supermarkets if they notice a problem; after all, it is their own health and well-being that is at stake!

That is why this one customer has taken to social media to complain about a possible health risk in their local Woolies.

Apparently, there was a large puddle of brown liquid behind the deli counter. He claimed that it was giving off a really foul odour, and he guessed it might have been caused by a leak in the supermarket's sewage.

He also said that there were open displays of deli food close to where the spill happened. If it isn't cleaned up right away, it could get on the raw meat products.

'There's quite disgusting sewage on the floor; it f***ing stinks,' he said in the clip. 'Look at all this meat. The doors aren't closed, with the sewage on the floor. Fantastic.'

However, a spokesman from the Woolworths store in question debunked the allegation that the puddle was brought on by waste from the restrooms. It was reported that the smelly liquid was actually wastewater from the deli's washing process that had leaked out. It did not come from anywhere else.

After what happened, the spokesperson said that the mess had already been cleaned up.

'We thank our team for their quick action following a sudden leak from a waste water drain in one of our stores,' they said.

'They swiftly cleaned up the spill and organised plumbers to fix the issue within the hour. We appreciate our customers' understanding as our team worked to rectify the blocked drain.'

Most of the comments on the man's TikTok video disagreed that it was sewage, pointing out that the restrooms and the deli area are located in completely different parts of the store.

Some users speculated that a clogged grease trap was to blame, while others suspected that it was contaminated water used to clean raw meat.

Thankfully, the situation has been resolved already, and we can be sure the man is relieved that it wasn't sewage waste near the deli items all along!

Members, if you ever find yourself in a situation even remotely similar to this one, please don't be afraid to bring the problem up with the management! It's important to know what your rights are as a customer, and since this is about your health, you shouldn't settle.

We hope you have a pleasant shopping experience!

So…did he automatically jump on social media & carry on about this issue (including the foul language) or did he do the responsible thing & just calmly & politely go & report this to the staff at the store? My guess is the former…any chance to make yourself look important in social media, I just hate this aspect of our current trends in society! I’m sure if he’s done the rest gut thing his fears would have been quickly alleviated, sewerage, highly unlikely.

Why oh why didn't he call for management rather than posting on social media.

It seems that woolworths got straight on to it and fixed the problem. So no need to post about it.

These social media influences are going to one day post something of real importance and no one will believe them , the same as the boy who cried wolf.

What the heck is this fascination some people have with posting things on social media? Most of us on this forum, it appears, would go to the staff and inform that there is a problem in an area. The staff take care of it and we continue with our shopping. Nobody else really needs to know, do they. Maybe I am the naïve one.
