Coles worker rises to fame with his hilarious response to egg prank

In the age of social media, where the quest for fame can lead to all sorts of antics, it's refreshing to see genuine, good-humoured interaction moments.

Such was the case with a Coles supermarket employee who became an unexpected social media star thanks to his cool reaction to a customer's unusual prank.

The internet is a treasure trove of bizarre and quirky videos, but every so often, one stands out for its simplicity and the sheer good nature of those involved.

Tommy Armour, an Aussie social media user with a penchant for eating whole eggs–yes, shell and all–in public, much to the surprise of onlookers.

His antics have garnered admiration and bewilderment, but his latest video, which featured a Coles worker, has truly captured viewers' hearts.

The video shows Tommy approaching the checkout with a carton of eggs. The Coles worker, identified as Robert, greets him.

‘How's it going, alright?’ the employee asked.

As Tommy asks to take one egg out before the carton is bagged, he pops it into his mouth, shell included.

Robert's reaction is priceless. With a nonchalant air, he simply asks, 'Oh, you eat them raw?' before ringing up the purchase for $5.30.

This laid-back response has endeared Robert to Tommy's followers.

‘What a good sport he was,’ one said.

‘He was so lovely,’ another commented.

‘Bro was chill with it,’ a third one added.

The video's comments section is filled with admiration for Robert's cool demeanour. One fan even declared him their 'favourite Coles worker,' and another suggested he's 'clearly seen many things in his life.'

With over 100,000 views, Robert's reaction became a hit. It showed the everyday humour and resilience of supermarket workers.

His highest-viewed video featured egg consumption, filmed during a March flight. An egg was consumed next to two sleeping passengers.

This isn't the first time supermarket employees have been unwitting participants in social media pranks.

Last year, two teens tricked a Woolworths worker into making an embarrassing announcement over the loudspeaker.

This classic gag won over their social media audience when the worker called them out as 'buggers’.

Australia's major supermarkets have embraced social media by creating their own content to engage with a younger audience.

Woolworths featured Liam Kirley, a store employee who gained fame for his work-related videos in 2021.

Chief Marketing Officer Andrew Hicks explained they aimed to bring ‘authenticity’ to their account through this approach.

‘TikTok is a great platform to share content, and we hope we can help make customers’ shopping easier through simple and fun tips and insights,’ he said.

Similarly, Woolworths responded to a comedian's joke about their own-brand eggs.

The comedian humorously mentioned people leaving reviews on eggs during her show at a festival, which later gained popularity. More details on the story can be found here.

I wonder if he realises that the eggs have not been cleaned.
Start taking a closer look at the eggs you buy.
All eggs go through a cleaning process why do you say they are not clean.🤔

I don't think so. I have had eggs that are still covered with muck and feathers.
Really I’ve only had them like that from friends who had chickens in tassie so they got an extra scrub from me when I got them.👍
