Coles to 'lock' the prices of hundreds of essential buys – here are some of the items included!

Members, have you noticed that your usual budget doesn't quite go as far as it used to when you do your weekly shopping? The price hikes you see in supermarkets are undoubtedly inflation at work, and judging by the rate of increase – it doesn't look like things will calm down any time soon.

The good news is that some major supermarkets in the country are making an effort to make it easier for their customers to buy everyday necessities, such as ready-made food, hygiene items, and cleaning materials.

Woolworths revealed that the company had spent millions of dollars to lower the prices of some grocery store staples to help Aussies deal with the skyrocketing cost of living.

There's something for everyone in the supermarket's recent massive sale, which includes everything from chicken and bread to yoghurt and vitamins, as well as cheeses, dips, coffee, and cleaning supplies.

Similarly to Woolworths, Coles has also made efforts to help Aussies alleviate their budget stress.

The supermarket chain said that they have started to lower the prices of more than 500 items in their stores, and they will also 'lock' the prices of nearly 1,168 items across their range until early 2023.

Popular grocery list staples such as mince, free-range eggs, cheese, bread, sausages, pasta, rice, crackers, canned tomatoes, and tuna are among the long list of reduced-priced goods.

Prices have also gone down on snacks, diapers, hand soap, pet food, and dishwashing tablets, which are all things that people need in their homes.

The most recent wave of price reductions at Coles began three weeks ago, and over the next several weeks, there will be more products added to the list.

The 'locked' products are promised to remain at their current low pricing for at least until January 31, 2023, in all Coles supermarkets and online.

Here are some of the items that are marked down:
  • Coles RSPCA Approved Chicken Portions with BBQ Rub - was $9/kg, now $8.50/kg
  • Riverview Farms Australian Hot Roast Pork - was $21/kg, now $20/kg

Leah Weckert, the CEO of Coles Commercial and Express, said that keeping prices low was just one way the shops could help people deal with the rising cost of living.

'As we lead into Christmas, we know customers want to see price stability and prices come down on the products that matter to them most, so we've locked the price of more than 1,100 products in-store and online, and we are currently lowering the price of 500 more,' Weckert said.

'We will not only be publishing the prices of locked products but also letting our customers know how long they can depend on that price.

'Our team has been working hard with our suppliers navigating the inflationary environment and working collaboratively to manage these cost pressures. And at the same time, we continue to offer thousands of new specials to our customers every week.'

Coles always mark up their prices by 100% to make a huge profit dropping their prices like they are is one big joke. They are still making a huge profit dropping a price by a lousy 10 to 20 cents is a joke. You can see in Coles where aged pensioners would buy cat or dog food even though they don't own a pet as that was their meat because they can't afford the price of proper meat to survive. I won't name stores nor staff who no longer work at Coles and currently work there who have seen and been told this first hand. I was shocked when elderly people pre pandemic told us that is what they were eating and adding herbs and spices to make it much nicer to eat it.
