Coles shopper saves $288 in her grocery buy and gets to take home FREE whole roast chicken!

One Victorian shopper has shared that she managed to score $365 worth of food for only $77 at her local Coles. What a bargain!

Sharing on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group, Samy posted photos of her huge grocery haul, which included steaks, lamb chops, salmon fillets, venison mince, burger patties, salads, bags of chopped veggies, coconut yoghurt, milk, bread, and even a whole roast chicken, which she got for free!

In total, the mum saved around $288 in a single shop.

Truly, being in the right place at the right time for a bargain really pays off.

According to Samy, when you visit the supermarket just before 8 pm and they have no stock left in Coles’ RSPCA Approved Whole Chicken Roast, you can ask the deli for a chicken voucher, which will let you claim a free whole chicken on your next visit.

Apparently, Coles has a no-chicken free-chicken deal, which many shoppers were seemingly unaware of. That is why Samy was able to take home an entire roasted chicken, free of charge. She added that customers have a week to use the voucher or else the offer expires.

She also claimed that some Coles branches don’t have the promo, so it’s better to check with your store staff. “Check the chicken warmer to see if your store does it; there is usually a sign attached to the warmer!”

According to Samy and other fellow shoppers in her post’s comments section, the best time to shop would be around the time before dinner, which is after 7 pm, and the time just before the store closes.

During these hours, you can expect markdowns of up to 50%, especially on products that are about to expire. Some shoppers were even luckier, being able to score goods with over 90% off the original price.

Looks like we’re off to Coles later folks! Guess we’ll see you in the discount aisle, eh?

That would be so good but our Coles in Queensland have very little meat and it's a premium price when you do find meat.I guess we all should move to Victoria then 40.000 southerners buying houses here they are going to be disappointed with our food supply and lack of medical From Hervey Bay

My question is what do you do with all that “about to expire” produce?? Is it safe to freeze meat that has almost reached its use by date? I would be a bit concerned, and would have no idea how long to freeze it for safely. Maybe someone has more information on this?

It’s perfectly safe to freeze “about to expire” produce. I do it all the time. Doesn’t affect the quality. Red meat can be frozen for longer than white meat or seafood. Ours gets used up quickly enough. I keep a list of what I have in the freezer and the date I put it in.

I do this too, always on the lookout for bargains to chuck into my freezer, couldn't afford to eat meat otherwise.
