Coles has been praised by shoppers for its progressive move to launch a “futuristic” feature in select stores.
Dozens of shoppers have applauded the retailer’s move, with one even calling it “futuristic”.
The shopper, who took to Facebook to share a photo of the "progressive" discovery, wrote: "This is the future.”
So, what exactly is the new feature if you may ask?
Coles set up "tap and go" coffee machines with a plant-based milk selection attached to them in some of its select stores in various states in the country.
It was said that the machines advertise a plant-based beverage for $2.50 in its regular size and $3 for a large.

Customers gushed over the new feature, with many expressing their praises for the retailer.
One person wrote: “This is so good.”
“OMG I love this," another added.
While a number of customers "absolutely agreed" that the move ensures that plant-based alternatives become more mainstream in the market, some claimed that the initiative is not at all "futuristic" because dairy milk options are still available in the self-serve coffee machines.
One person said: “The future would be where there is only plant-based. But it’s a start.”
“Obviously the future is where the left side doesn’t exist?” another asked.
Others also pointed out that the plant-based options are 50 cents more expensive compared to dairy options for both sizes, saying that there should be "no plant milk surcharge".
Various "bougie" (it means ‘fancy’ if, like us, you aren’t up on your millennial and Gen Z slang) Coles stores have been sprouting in different locations across the country, with Sydney's Coles Local branch on York Street being the seventh "Coles Local" store in operation.
It should be noted that the first Coles Local store was opened in Surrey Hills in Melbourne in 2018.
Currently, there are four Coles Local outlets in Sydney, with the other three located in Rose Bay, Chatswood and Manly.

Coles chief sustainability, property and export officer Thinus Keeve said that the stores are a massive hit among patrons.
He quipped: “Every time we open a new Coles Local store the feedback from customers is fantastic, and we see that not just through increased sales but directly through major gains in our customer satisfaction scores."
“A key part of our property strategy is a tailored and targeted customer offer and our York street store has been customised using thousands of data points."
“The store has a bespoke layout focused on products that are most in-demand among CBD customers, complemented by innovations customers wouldn‘t expect to find in an ordinary supermarket.”
Who would have thought that in 2022, we would be seeing plant-based milk at the self-serve coffee station in Coles? This just goes to show how much the world is changing, and how progressive Coles is for keeping up with the times.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it's high time for supermarkets to introduce more sustainable options to their customers, or do you find the increasing prevalence of ‘self serve’ a worry?
