Coles cashes in on Christmas cheer with new Flybuys festive savings!

As the festive season approaches, many of us start to feel the pinch in our wallets.

However, this year, Coles has launched an exciting new initiative just in time for Christmas, giving customers a chance to enjoy significant savings during the holidays.

The offer aims to help shoppers stretch their budgets further, making holiday preparations a bit more affordable.

Coles has recently announced a ‘Collect for Christmas’ offer, which allows Flybuys members to accumulate points and enjoy ‘instant cash off’ their Christmas shopping bill.

This national campaign is a first of its kind, aiming to give customers a head start on their festive preparations.

For those unfamiliar, Flybuys is a loyalty program that rewards customers with points for shopping at Coles and a range of partner businesses. These points can then be redeemed for discounts on future purchases, among other benefits.

To take advantage of this offer, Flybuys members must activate the ‘Collect for Christmas’ promotion by Sunday, August 25.

Once activated, Coles will disable the usual prompt at the checkout that offers to redeem 2,000 points for a $10 discount.

Instead, members will receive personalised offers over the following 12 weeks to boost their points balance.

Amanda McVay, Coles' Chief Customer Officer, emphasised the value of starting early, noting that customers can accumulate points and benefit from ‘greater savings’ at the checkout during the Christmas season.

‘We know that Christmas can be an expensive time of year, which is why our Collect for Christmas campaign gives our customers a head start,’ she said.

‘Collect for Christmas is the perfect way to let Flybuys points do the heavy lifting—start early, save, and make this Christmas unforgettable by taking advantage of this offer in the lead-up to Christmas.’

According to a survey conducted by Coles, one in three customers have already begun working on their Christmas budget, with many collecting rewards dollars, saving money, or buying specials to prepare for the season's expenses.

Members who have opted into the promotion will be able to redeem their collected Flybuys points during the Christmas period, from Wednesday, December 11 to Tuesday, December 24.

The more points you collect, the greater the savings—Coles stated that customers can redeem up to 80,000 Flybuys points in one transaction, which is equivalent to a whopping $400 off your shop.

But what about Woolworths shoppers? Not to worry—Woolworths offers a similar scheme with its Everyday Rewards program.

Customers can opt into the ‘Bank for Christmas’ feature via the app or online. However, unlike with Coles, this can be done at any time throughout the year.

Starting from 13 November 2024, points can be redeemed at Woolworths, Big W, BWS, Everyday Market, and select EG Ampol locations.

Last year, Woolworths reported that members saved an average of $100 through the program, with some saving up to $4,000.

Adelaide mum Jessykah Burnage shared that she saved $1,180 last year, which she put towards Christmas presents and groceries.

‘I feel like it’s more bang for buck to leave it and to get hundreds of dollars off one shop rather than $10 here and there,’ she shared.

As Coles rolls out its new Christmas offer, aimed at helping customers maximise their savings, the supermarket giant is also adding even more festive cheer with an exciting giveaway.

Not only can shoppers enjoy discounts through the Flybuys initiative, but they also have the chance to win a substantial prize, adding extra value to their holiday shopping experience.

I already save my flybuy points towards the end of the year purchases for Christmas, have done so for many years. It can be annoying asking if I want ten dollars off but it also isn't hard to say no thank you. I also use the save for Christmas through Woolies. Every little helps.
