Chocolate lovers, you can now commence your happy dance!
We here at the SDC have some fantastically sweet news for you: Mars Wrigley has just added an amazing new product to their range, and Aussies have the privilege of being the first to sample it!
The confectionary-based company has just announced the imminent arrival of their Maltesers Gold – a malt centre coated in the solidified goodness of what we can only assume is gold chocolate.
Needless to say, the internet wasted no time in falling in love with the latest offering, with plenty of chocoholics' social media pages abuzz with news of the product.
The secret flavour was leaked online by influencer Sophie Cachia, social media foodie Jacqui Feltgate and chef Nick Vaviti, who all managed to get their hands on a packet of the still-unreleased Gold Maltesers.
'I wasn't supposed to post about this til January, but Maltesers Gold is way too good to keep quiet,' Sophie wrote in a post on Instagram.
'As one of our first consumer-led product innovations for the year, we have a feeling Australian chocolate lovers are going to be incredibly excited by this launch,' said Mars Wrigley's Marketing Director Ben Hill.
'Australians are the first consumers in the world to enjoy our new Maltesers Gold, and we're really proud to have designed and formulated the recipe and manufactured the product locally in Australia at our Ballarat innovation hub,' he added.
According to Hill, the company has invested more than $25 million into the Ballarat site for the express purpose of producing consumer-led products.
Maltesers Gold is the first of its kind, making it a truly exciting launch for the brand. The new flavour will cost $5 and be available at Coles, Woolworths, and other independent retailers.
Maltesers are remaining tight-lipped about what the official GOLD flavour is, but the word on the street – er, the internet – is that it’s modelled after the popular Cadbury Caramilk.
So it seems that Maltesers have taken a classic and given it a divine twist. Perfect for those who want a unique spin on an old favourite. Imagine a crunchy malt centre covered with rich, caramelised gold chocolate – delicious!
As soon as we get word from Mars Wrigley as to when exactly the product will be hitting the supermarkets, we'll be sure to share it with you, our beloved members.
In the meantime, while we are all waiting for its release, why not take the time to experiment and make our own chocolates at home? Check out this video below for some instructions!
