Cheese blocks too expensive? Coles shopper scores a haul of cheese for only $16 - how did he do it?

Who doesn’t love a good chunk of cheese, especially when it's at a bargain price?

Unfortunately, in recent weeks, the cost of cheese and other grocery essentials have been on the rise due to higher inflation.

Shopping for groceries, especially cheese, has become a highly discussed topic now that prices have increased dramatically.

The price of cheese has gotten so high that shoppers have had to be quite selective with their purchases, making sure they get exactly what they need without spending too much.

But while most Australians are feeling the pinch of inflation, one lucky shopper scored an amazing deal when shopping at his local Coles store.

Sharing on Facebook, the customer wrote about how he came across a massive markdown on cheese and had to take advantage of it right away.

'Rarely get to go to supermarket stores but happened to be in the right place at the right time today. The Coles fella was heavily discounting brie when I was shopping,’ he wrote in a post in the 'Mark Down Addicts' Facebook group.

‘Now anyone who knows me knows I eat cheese like people eat chocolate or confectionery so I have no guilt at all about being able to pick up so many of these delights.’

To make sure that he was able to get the most out of the deal, he got 24 chunks of cheese for only $16.62 - an incredible deal compared to its full price of $168.80.

He even shared a photo of his purchase, showing how each block was sold at prices ranging from just 18 cents to $1.02.

The post gained traction on social media, attracting the attention of more than 1,100 users who congratulated the shopper for his find and admitted that they were ‘jealous’.

One user wrote: ‘I love these cheeses! I would have grabbed a handful! Nice score.’

’This is my dream come true! Well done,’ another said.

A third chimed in: ‘Don’t mind me if I’m drooling here.’

‘Talk about right place, right time! What a great bargain,’ another added.

Apparently, the post also triggered the cravings of some pregnant women in the group.

One expecting mum joked: ‘I’m pregnant and I’m crying. It’s fine. I’m not jealous.’

‘Holy cr*p I’m pregnant and I would loooooove this!’ another mum raved.

Others pointed out that it’s a smart purchase given that brie can be frozen and last up to six months, allowing the shopper to enjoy cheese and crackers ‘without spending a fortune’.

One person suggested: ‘Can be frozen, eaten as snacks, add to pizzas and lasagne — plenty of things to do with them.’

‘Great for freezing. Sometimes I freeze and then grate it up - nice to then sprinkle onto a baked potato or on a pizza,’ another shared.

A third recommended: ‘Now you can afford the expensive quince paste and crackers!! Awesome score!’

‘When cheese is super cheap like that I freeze it and make baked Brie! Good find,’ another added.

One user shared that their mum also managed to score blocks of brie for a fraction of its original price at Coles, sharing a photo of the cheese haul.

But the key question remained - how did he manage to get such a great deal?

Apparently, it's a secret many night shoppers are in on.

Many suggested that the shopper had scored the bonus bargain while shopping late at night when stores are closing and slashing prices to shift their stock quickly.
