Recipe from Women's Weekly Food

Serves 12 --- 15 minutes preparation

Ingredients
Cheat's vanilla slice
  • 250 g lattice biscuits
  • 300 ml milk
  • 600 ml thickened cream
  • 2 x 100g packets instant vanilla pudding
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 2 tbsp canned passionfruit
Steps
Cheat's vanilla slice
  1. Line base and sides of a 26 x 16cm (base measurement) slice pan with baking paper, extending paper at long sides for handles. Place half the biscuits over base of prepared pan in a single layer, shiny-side up. Cut to fit tightly. Set aside.
  2. Using an electric mixer, beat milk, cream and pudding mixture in a large bowl until thick, smooth and creamy (don't overmix; mixture will become lumpy). Carefully spread mixture over biscuit base in prepared pan; level top. Top with remaining biscuits, shiny-side up, cutting to fit tightly. Gently press biscuits down.
  3. Combine sifted icing sugar and passion fruit in a small bowl until smooth. Spread icing over top of slice. Chill for 1 hour or until firm. Transfer to a chopping board, then cut into squares. Serve.

  • Step 1
Grease a 3cm-deep, 16.5cm x 26cm (base) slab pan. Line base and sides with baking paper, allowing a 2cm overhang at both long ends. Place 12 biscuits, in a single layer, in pan to cover base.
  • Step 2
Combine custard powder and 1/4 cup milk in a saucepan. Whisk until smooth. Pour in remaining milk. Add sugar and place pan over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes or until custard comes to the boil. Cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover surface of custard with plastic wrap. Set aside for 30 minutes to cool slightly.
  • Step 3
Pour warm custard over biscuits. Top with another layer of 12 biscuits. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until set.
  • Step 4
Sift icing sugar into a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon passionfruit pulp. Stir to make a thick icing, adding more pulp if required. Spoon icing over slice. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until icing sets. Cut slice into squares, using shape of biscuits as a guide. Serve.

No👎 they are thin and not the same texture, the best thing with the lattice biscuits they were like a wafer. Also they were slightly sweet whereas salada biscuits are salty
Why not just use puff pastry like bakers use seeing you can’t get these biscuits.😊

That's what I'm going to do , but basically it will end up like the normal vanilla slice. The idea of using the lattice biscuits is that there is basically no cooking and so much easier with the lattice. I wished they would just bring them back

Seen as I'm stuck in my room with covid I've been cleaning out my cupboard. I have so many clothes still with tags on that I don't want. SDC should do a post where people put up stuff they don't want.
I have heaps I would just give away
I would post to anywhere.

I would literally post to anywhere.
Sorry to hear you have been inflicted with COVID.
Were any of those garments purchased before you starting losing weight Suzanne?
I am sure SDC would get a good response from people if a site were put up.

Alot of them. They are all size 12 and 14. Formal dresses , tops coats, also alot of black expensive work clothes.

My daughter also cleared out her cupboard size 8 and 10.

I made up 8 large garbage bags for hubby to give to a friend who sends them I think Thailand.

But my stuff I have in 10 bags plus I'm not finished. This is some of my stuff I'm clearing out

Beautiful dresses indeed. I just asked & those sizes wouldn't fit the boss or any of our daughters, unfortunately. Any clothing going overseas won't be wasted. Love to see a lady l know wearing these beautiful garments. Thankyou.
