Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver stuns Sunrise hosts with bizarre chook cooking technique

That’s why the hosts were left in shock when renowned chef Jamie Oliver appeared on Sunrise to promote his new cookbook, 5 Ingredients Mediterranean.

The celebrity chef, 48, appeared on the breakfast program to share an innovative and unusual method of cooking chicken.


The trick was inspired during Jamie’s travels around the Mediterranean after he saw rotisseries being used roadside.

‘If you go around parts of the Mediterranean, you're going to see rotisseries functioning and working on the roadsides. They're roasting whole chickens, they're rendering fat, and there are potatoes underneath them, and sometimes vegetables,’ he said.

‘So how do we do that at home in a conventional oven?’ Jamie asked.


Jamie began his demonstration by cutting the onions, quarters, and potatoes in halves and placing them in a container. Next, he put four chicken legs with the vegetables.

‘In the Mediterranean, they love herbs, and they love citrus so very simply, I'll take some of these herbs and sprinkle that onto the chicken,’ Jamie stated while putting oregano in the container.

He mixed the oregano with salt, pepper, lemon juice and olive oil in a mortar and pestle. He put this mixture in the chicken and vegetables.

After marinating, he wedged the chicken legs between the grills of an oven rack through their narrow ends, making the legs hang downward. This will ‘re-enact the roasting’ he mentioned earlier.


He then placed it into a hot oven with the tray of vegetables underneath it. The chicken was then cooked for 40 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.

This method ensures the excess marinade drips into the tray for extra flavour.

'This is giving you the best, most juicy chicken and crispy skin, and that's all dripping down into potatoes,' Jamie explained.

Hosts Nat Barr and Matt Shirvington immediately applauded Jamie for his innovative approach to cooking.

‘Mind blown,’ Shirvo said. ‘How good was that?’

‘Wow,’ added Nat. ‘I have never seen that!’

I wonder who cleans the oven 😮
 
OMG if you have ever watched Jamie Oliver you would have seen him do this a million times, and besides who doesn't know this trick, use a cake rack if you don't want to clean the oven racks.:sleep:
Mum always put water in the bottom of the pan when roasting with a cake rack. As well as keeping the chicken moist and juicy, it reduces cleaning too.
