Caught in the act! Woolworths shopper violates two parking laws at the same time and leaves onlookers enraged

A local from Newcastle shared a post on Reddit about a Woolworths shopper who parked her Toyota Rav4 over two “Parents with Prams” parking spots.

What’s even more infuriating is that the driver didn’t have any children with her - her car didn’t even have any children’s car seats.

“The audacity,” the user wrote in his post. “She didn’t even have a child seat.”

The situation took a turn for the worst when the onlooker approached the driver, and instead of fixing her parking, she ignored the matter and headed straight into the supermarket, leaving her five-seater vehicle in the same position.

“I confronted her and she just said ‘I know, I know’ looking really apologetic and proceeded to go into Woolies without moving the car,” the Reddit user said. “So mad.”

Fellow users were shocked by the driver’s actions and spoke their minds in the comments section.

“This is really douchey,” one user wrote.

“It’s not that she parked in the marketing gimmick car space it’s that she parked over two spots,” said another.

Other people agreed, “Exactly, the lack of children is just the icing on the a***hole cake that is taking up two spots.”

These parking spaces allow parents more room to manage prams and infants, and they are often closer to the entrance, to reduce the distance young children must travel in a high traffic area. Photo from NRMA.
But aside from the parking violation, the Reddit post also opened up a discourse over whether “Parents With Prams” parking spots should be in supermarket car parks.

“Not defending the arseholery of not parking between the designated lines but those "parents with prams" spots are nothing but marketing,” one user commented.

“They're not legally defined as a disabled spot is. They're not there to help people with mobility issues. They're there to get cashed up stay-at-home mothers swanning about town in the door and spending money,” he added.

Another replied, “But pram parking has driven me batty for years, considering the limited number of disabled parking that is provided, and I’ve never met a pro-pram parking person who wasn’t entitled AF.”

A third person commented: “Should be ‘Parents Without Prams’ in my opinion. Why do you need to park closer because your baby is on wheels?”

Parking across two spaces is always an inexcusable offence, but do you agree that ‘Parents with Prams’ parking slots are just a marketing ploy taking up spots for extra Disabled parking? Let us know down below!

I do not have a problem with these parking spots but do feel that there are to many of them compared to the disability spaces. When my daughters twins were younger they were an absolute saviour so was always annoying when you see cars parked in them with no car seats.

I agree that maybe she had an emergency, but parking over two spots is completely unacceptable!

I'm surprised and disappointed at the people complaining about the Parents With Prams parking spots. It can be difficult and very stressful to wrangle children especially if you have more than one and no helper with you. I don't understand why this small courtesy by a business would cause such vitriol against stay-at-home mothers and supporters.
It's pure jealousy.

I agree. You are pushing the child. What's so strenuous about that? They should convert them all to handicapped spots.

I prefer pram parking spots - if they are larger than normal (allowing car doors to be fully opened to extract squirming pram-bound occupant without impacting the next-door car). At the same time, I would like other specialised parking spots to be considered: seniors' parking (for the less able) and spaces for disability vehicles to allow side- or back-loading of wheelchairs.

If you have a Acrod parking permit you can park in a parents with prams space if you display your pass , this is very handy when no Acrod parking is available.

I have an acrod sticker, as there are only one or two disabled parking spots close to the door of shopping centres, and they are often filled, if I have to park in a parents with prams spot, I do and put up my acrod sticker. There should be more acrod disability parking spaces.

I don't object to the concept of "Parents with Prams" designated bays -- if they are used appropriately. But there's no excuse for parking over two of them or parking in them when you don't have a pram. Note, I said PRAM, not children. Somehow, many parents think it's okay if they just have kids, even if they are too old to need a pram. However, because these bays are a "courtesy" and don't have legal status like ACROD bays do, and because shopping centre car parks are classified as private property, nothing can be done about it until the shopping centre or relevant business chooses to do something. And they won't, for fear of alienating that group of customers (according to the security guard at our local shopping centre).

Being disabled I need a disability park..the amount of faux disabled people I see is amazing...They can jump out of their cars, jog across to the shops and jog back with bundles of shopping and jump in their cars yet somehow idiot doctors give them a permit or they use someone else's..I'd like to lend them my rotten spine so they really know what being disabled is all about...the best disability park is in a nearby shopping centre...the fine for parking there without a permit is $2,500..you never see anyone parking there illegally...!!
I know some have different disabilities but these parks are close to the entrance for people with mobility issues.

I don't think "idiot doctors" gave away ACROD permits. I think people misuse permits by borrowing other people's, using expired permits, and even using those which belong to recently deceased relatives (instead of turning them in). Both my mother and mother-in-law have ACROD permits and don't drive, so I transport them wherever they need to go. I can't begin to tell you the number of times I have been unable to use the ACROD bays because they are taken up by people who are NOT displaying any permit at all. Also, many people do not bother to make themselves aware of the conditions of usage. The rules state "An ACROD Permit holder may only park in ACROD Parking Bays WHEN THE PERMIT HOLDER NEEDS TO ENTER OR EXIT THE VEHICLE". So, for example, if your parent has a permit and they are with you in the vehicle, you cannot park in an ACROD bay if your parent remains seated in the vehicle while you get out and run your errand. My friend is a parking inspector and he said you just would not believe the number of people who abuse the ACROD bays, particularly taxis, ride-share vehicles (e.g. Uber), and delivery vehicles (e.g. Door Dash).

If you read my post you will see my "idiot" comment refers to disability parks, not acrod parks. I ask again, what is an acrod park and how are they displayed...I'm in Adelaide and have never heard of them..?

ACROD stands for the Australian Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled. It's very similar to the system you have in South Australia. The ACROD bays for the disabled are painted blue with a large wheelchair symbol on the ground, as well as a signpost immediately in front of them. They are wider than regular parking bays and tend to be located closest to the entry of the building or shopping centre.

I suggest you try re-reading your own posts! You said "If you read my post you will see my "idiot" comment refers to disability parks, not acrod parks". However, the only comment you made using the word "idiot" was "yet somehow idiot doctors give them a permit ". I work for doctors and can assure you that ACROD permits are not given out lightly.

I live in a small country town and know of 3 people who have received disabled stickers from an "idiot" doctor, they were fit and healthy, just favoured patients. He no longer works in this town but has moved to Wagga and probably still hands them out to his favourite people.

That's appalling - but I am still sure it is not a widespread problem.
