Cate Blanchett Retires? Is the Award-Winning Actress Taking a Final Bow?

One of Australia's most beloved and accomplished actors, Cate Blanchett, is facing a moment of reckoning that could shake the entertainment industry to its core - quitting acting.

After over three decades of gracing screens big and small, the 53-year-old star is contemplating calling it quits.

Despite her recent Oscar nomination for her incredible performance in Tár, Blanchett revealed in a candid interview with Vanity Fair that her passion for acting is waning. It's not a passing thought or a phase, but a recurring feeling that has been creeping up on her, like a shadow lurking in the background.

Blanchett described her previous passion for acting as a love affair, one that can be as tumultuous as it is thrilling. 'It's not occasional — it's continual,' she said.

'On a daily or weekly basis, for sure. It's a love affair, isn't it? So you do fall in and out of love with it, and you have to be seduced back into it.'

In 2019, Blanchett also spoke on the less desirable sides of her profession, telling her close friend and fellow actor, Julia Roberts, for Interview Magazine, 'As you get older, acting just gets more and more humiliating.'

'When I was younger, I would wonder why the older actors I admired kept talking about quitting. Now I realise it's because they want to maintain a connection to the last shreds of their sanity.'

However, in this latest interview, Blanchett expresses having come close to taking a break after Tár wrapped, with the advice of director Todd Field; but settling for continuing with two more projects nonetheless.

In an honest moment of self-reflection, Blanchett shared with Vanity Fair; 'I just said no to a couple of things. I think it's time to be quiet.'

It seems, then, that this time the Oscar-nominated actress is ready to follow through with a break after a long, successful and fulfilling career.

Cate Blanchett has already won two prestigious awards – the Best Actress Golden Globe and Critics' Choice Award – for her role in Tár. In the film, she plays the role of Lydia Tar, the first female conductor of a German orchestra, who is later accused of sexual abuse.

With these accolades already under her belt, many are eagerly anticipating the possibility of her winning another Oscar – the highest award for actors – further cementing her status as a master of her craft and an icon of the industry.

At the Critics' Choice Awards, Blanchett accepted her award for Best Actress, raising a few eyebrows by calling out the 'patriarchal pyramid' of the award structure that is designed to pit women against one another.

On the stage, she argued, 'Why don't we just say there was a whole raft of female performances that are in concert and in dialogue with one another? And stop the televised horse race of it all.'

For Blanchett, the decision is hers and hers alone. And whatever she chooses, we can be sure that it will be a choice made with courage, grace, and the same unbridled passion that has defined her career for over 30 years.

Cate is worth millions, so she should definitely retire.
So many older film stars just keep plugging away, like they can't think of anything else to do.
Retirement is the best part of my life. If I don't get something done today then tomorrow will do. I have time to enjoy life and please myself.
Every morning when I wake, and every night too, I thank God that I don't work now.

Cate Blanchette is a wonderful actor. The true measure of an actor is their ability to manipulate emotions about a character that they develop. Cate's ability to generate conflicting emotions in the viewer was displayed in one of her lesser known movies, "Bandits", with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton. A quiet housewife suddenly thrown into an environment with two less than successful criminals. Soon we were seeing the quiet, mild mannered Kate Wheeler adapting to a life of crime, Even to the point of carrying out the planning! We soon discover a shonky character, whom sane people would most likely steer well clear of ... BUT, you cannot help but like her! You are always left wondering what is going to happen next and hoping that Kate gets away with it. Kate (Cate) steals the show, which Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton probably regret to this day. There was never a sequel.
