Can you guess what this baffling hotel bathroom feature is for?

We’ve all had our fair share of confusing experiences while staying in hotels. Trying to figure out how to work the TV remote, navigating our way around a complicated safe, or worse when the bathroom situation is extremely confusing…

We all know that feeling – you’re arriving at a hotel after a long day of travel, and all you want to do is take a relaxing shower before bed, but of course, the shower and/or bath set-up is so confusing that you just can’t seem to get the water to come out of the right faucet. That’s exactly what happened to Aussie singer Ruel when he found himself trying to navigate his way around an unusual shower set-up.

The 19-year-old detailed his frustrating experience in a video shared on his TikTok account, captioning it: ‘Hotel showers are a f****** Rubix cube.’ He then proceeded to walk viewers through the complicated arrangement of taps and knobs in the bathtub and shower combination – and we have to admit, we would have been totally lost, too!

While he says he was able to turn on the water with a ‘pretty normal knob’, switching the water from the bath faucet over to the shower head is where things started getting confusing.

After playing around with various switches and buttons for what felt like forever (or at least, that’s how long it seemed in his video), he finally came across one knob hidden under a stainless steel cap on top of one of the taps – which turned out to be exactly what he was looking for all along! Phew. Talk about feeling relieved…

Don’t believe it could be that difficult? Check out his video below. Just a warning, there is a tiny bit of colourful language, so if you don’t want to hear any swear words, just watch it on mute.

Who would have guessed it! Video source: TikTok.

Fortunately for him once he figured out how everything worked, Ruel was able to shower and was supposedly ‘low-key very impressed [with] himself.’ Which, according to grandkids slang, means he was ‘quietly impressed with himself’. And we don't blame him – after all, who would have thought such an innocent-looking cap on a bath tap could turn on a shower?

At least now we know what that pesky little extra feature is actually for if we ever come across it ourselves! Have you had a bizarre bathroom encounter in a hotel? Or any strange encounter in a hotel in general? Tell us about it in the comments below!

We had to settle for cold showers in Ireland, Not a hotel but rental, where the switch for the hot water was outside the bathroom, in a hallway, and looked like a light switch. We only found it on the last day. Made for very quick showers in the mornings.

Makes sense if this was installed by am Irish electrician. Would not have enjoyed the holiday if this was me.
