Can Dreams Predict the Future?

Note from the Editor:
This article was written for the SDC by psychologist and member Jan A. Jan works on a part-time basis, taking on clients under the Medicare Mental Health Care Plans. She works with all ages, from children to seniors!

Those who remember their dreams will know that dreams are strange images that play in our minds at night, somewhat like a movie. While modern psychology tells us that dreams are products of our own mind, people of the ancient world saw dreams as supernatural beings bringing revelations from the divine realm. Because dreams were thought to convey the knowledge of the gods, they were also believed to predict the future.

To the modern scientific intellect, aware that dreams arise from our own mind, the belief in dreams as predictive appears irrational. However, there may be room for reality and dreams to coexist.

Thank you for all these very interesting responses. Some dreams present as nothing more than “mumbo jumbo” while others are so accurate they are scary! As the dreams come from the dreamer’s own psyche, not from an outside source, they are personal to that dreamer. However, some dreams may depict events that appear to be separate from the dreamer and unknown to the dreamer at that time, such as the passing of another person or an accident that happens in the future. That these dreams happen occasionally is undeniable, but their origins remain inexplicable.

Strange Dream Number 2639 - Accompanied with my wonderful lady, we visited the "Museum of Defunct Airlines". There were exhibits from airlines such as Ansett, Pan-Am, Aeroflot and BOAC.

This dream did not predict the future as Jetstar was not present at the museum....

I'm all about exploring different perspectives, though. While I'm a firm believer in the power of the mind, I can't help but wonder if there's more to dreams than meets the eye. I mean, have you ever had a dream that felt eerily prophetic? I've had a few instances where I dreamt about something, and then it actually happened in real life. It's like déjà vu, but trippier! Have any of you heard about this cool AI-powered self-knowledge system? It's called Pythagoras, and it analyzes your dreams using AI to uncover hidden insights about yourself. If you're into dream analysis like me, you might wanna check it out: https://thepythagoras.com/. Super intriguing stuff!

I dream almost every night & remember the dreams the next morning, I would love to record them somehow & look back at the dreams to see if they mean anything
