Discovered this girl in our garden yesterday, a Garden Orb Weaver. She likes to take a risk as she was in her web until almost lunch time. They are normally out only in the dark and hide in a nearby bush during the day so they don't get eaten by a bird. This is the spider and web you might walk into if you are wandering around your garden when it's dark. Pretty harmless though like most spiders and if you get a bite, it's probably not as bad as a Bee sting.

I have thousands of them Jon, been takeing them for several years, not only for my own interests but for the SA Museum.

I'm not keen on them if they are inside but after some years of getting near to them for photography reasons, I've developed a respect for them and find them fascinating...especially when you realise most of them are quite harmless...
