Bloody Covid...

For four mornings a week, the wife and I would go to the warm water pool for exercises.
We made a lot of friends there. But at the moment, Covid has put paid to that.
The pools are closed and we can't even meet for our coffee mornings.
One of our ladies will turn 91 in 4 days time.
We think we will probably try to arrange to meet her at a local park and go for a stroll.
She really misses the pool. For years she would swim 40 laps each day, then join us in the warm pool.
Now she fears she won't get back there. Very sad really. I'd like to be going as well as her if I get to her age.

Yeah I'm pretty over it... 18 months now, and currently (in Sydney) no end in sight.

I definitely think it's taking its toll emotionally, although I'm lucky to be close to parks, the ocean, etc. and can get out for walks every day.

Fingers crossed that once most of us are vaccinated we can get back to normal - this seems to be what's happening in the US, parts of Europe, etc.

Covid panic by government here..... we lose hundreds of lives on the roads each year, but driving is not banned? We lose many hundreds of lives ti influenza.. oh no lockdown for that? Heart disease is our biggest killer.. mandatory diets & heart checks.. noooo Covid will just have to become another disease we live with vaccinations and an acceptable death rate???

@Placid I can very much relate to your swimming. I used to swim everyday! It's the only time I find you can completely switch off and just process your thoughts and focus on what you're doing. I also really enjoy the silence and you can't swim and chat!

I used to be a competitive swimmer (back in the day!) and know for a fact, that it would take a swimmer 12 months of no swimming at all for them to completely lose their "grip" of the water. Any less time, the body will still get in the water and do what it does, although the 40 laps a day might feel harder then they did the last time your 91 year old friend was in the water, she won't lose her abilities after a few weeks off, I promise! Please let her know she will be fine getting back into it, it's just like riding a bike, your body naturally remembers the movements!
