Big cash splash under the cost of living concession helps thousands of Australians

The rising cost of living is a problem that is affecting people of all ages, but it is perhaps pensioners who are feeling the squeeze the most. With fixed incomes and often limited savings, they are struggling to keep up with the ever-increasing prices of essentials like food and utility bills.
This has been the rationale of the South Australian government to distribute one-off cash payments to residents who are Centrelink recipients.
Around 192,000 South Australians will get up to $449 in cash directly into their bank accounts as part of a programme that was launched earlier this year in the state budget and is intended to help low-income earners and retirees who are struggling.
Premier Peter Malinauskas said that the payment was the largest state government financial aid ever made to those with low incomes and concession cards.
He remarked: 'With the rising cost of living pressures, inflation and an influx of interest rates, this payment could not come at a better time.'
'This one-off, doubled cost of living concession payment was what we promised – and we’re now delivering on it.'

Under the new concession plan, renters will receive a one-off cash payment of $224.60, while homeowners will receive $449.
Homeowner-occupiers who are self-funded retirees with a commonwealth seniors health card will also earn $224.60 per household.
The South Australian government pointed out that the cost of living concession is the replacement of the council rate concession, which was originally imposed to assist those on fixed or low incomes with their everyday living costs, including rent, utilities, and medical expenses.
So, how can you obtain the concession? Here are the guidelines:
You must reside at a property in South Australia
Anyone who submitted their application by July 1 should expect to receive the payment by the end of August.
Those who applied or are applying for Centrelink beyond July 1 can still receive the payments so long as they apply before December 31.
