Barbie meets Sunrise: Former host Melissa Doyle's nostalgic post delights fans

Guess what's sweeping Australia off its feet? It's none other than Barbie fever! And hold your horses because some beloved Aussie personalities concocted a brilliant plan to ride this wave of excitement.

Melissa Doyle, who has been busy making headlines since her Sunrise days, has recently taken her creativity to social media to give us all a good dose of nostalgia and laughter.

She shared a photo featuring not just one but two Barbie dolls and two Kens, all perched proudly behind a replica Sunrise desk. And guess what they're up to?

They're mimicking the former Sunrise team, including the likes of Natalie Barr, Mel herself, the legendary David Koch, and the ever-charming Mark Beretta!

It's like a trip down memory lane, a perfect fusion of childhood memories and current pop culture excitement. You can't help but crack a smile at the imagination behind the photo.

'That time the makers of Barbie worked their magic on the Sunrise team!' she captioned the post.

Fans were quick to point out two hilarious details of the Barbies—one being that the Kochie doll's head is a spot-on representation of him!

The other detail was a rather funny reference to Nat's Barbie doll, which was wearing a 2000s-inspired cardigan over a spaghetti-strap cami top and, as one fan put it, 'Geez, Nat's top's a bit low.'

'What a great memory, this is hilarious!' said another, as a fourth remarked that Beretta’s doll looks 'like Ken'.

A lot of time has passed since the iconic Barbie photo was taken.

Mel was the first Sunrise host alongside David Koch in 2002, lasting until 2013, when she stepped back. In 2013, Samantha Armytage took over until 2021, when Natalie Barr began co-hosting. Meanwhile, Kochie left his role as co-host in June 2023 after two decades.

During his farewell episode, Mel shared some tips on adjusting to 'normal life' after years of early morning wake-ups. She said that while the sleep-ins were great, the highlight for her had been the ability to reclaim the evenings.

'The mornings you sleep in, no problem,' she said, explaining that it was the nights that were an adjustment.

Kochie joked that he had to 'book the kids' time' slot if he went out for dinner, referring to the need for early nights.

Aside from reflecting on her lengthy stint with Sunrise, Mel has also awed fans with snaps of her supporting her son Nick Dunlop who is a part of the Australian Rowing Team.

The proud mum recently shared a heartfelt update after the team won gold in an international regatta held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, saying: 'Really trying hard not to be an embarrassing mum, but failing. Bawling like a baby. Gold! World Champions!! Back-to-back gold!'

After just watching BARBIE I can only say that I am 100% sure that the Sunrise team depiction of BARBIE would be 1000% better then the actual movie. The marketing of what can only be called one of the worse movies ever made would have to be a world beater convincing the public that the movie is a world beater.
And the opening section of the film depicting young girls smashing their BARBIE Dolls was disgraceful and should have given the movie a R rating for violence.

The best part of the movie was the closing scenes depicting the elderly lady, whom was the originator of the original BARBIE Doll, talking to Barbie.
