Backyard Incinerator

Do you remember the days when every Aussie backyard had a trusty incinerator? These humble brick towers turned Sunday afternoons into smoke-filled rituals. Long before wheelie bins, the crackle of burning scraps was just part of suburban life. Did you have one in the backyard? Share your memories with us here.

Yes, when I was a kid we had a backyard incinerator down behind the shed. I used to like taking down the bits and pieces to burn in there.

Almost every yard had one. Generally placed in the yard near a horrid neighbour ... Sunday Smoke out Neighbour Day.
How could anyone forget that?
Most of them were disassembled and moved to a suitable location for a BBQ

I still have one that was built by my parents. It is hidden behind a large snowball tree, in a back corner of the garden. Built to outlast us all. Possibly will be of interest to future archaeologists.

I did'nt disassemble mine for a bbq, I put a hotplate on top and presto instant bbq

We had one just the same as the picture. All our neighbours had one usually in the back corner of the yard. On weekends they would be all spilling smoke from the mowing and garden clean up.

LOL. I can just imagine that.. 2,000 years from now and a spacecraft returns and lands beside an incenerator in the back yard... with a partly burnt book of the Kama Sutra....
