Australia Post under fire for ‘lazy’ delivery attempt

We often find ourselves juggling more responsibilities and struggling to manage our time effectively. This can make running errands a stressful and overwhelming experience.

Luckily, the rise of online shopping and delivery services has made our lives much easier by allowing us to avoid crowded stores and long lines.

One delivery service that has become a go-to for many Australians is Australia Post. With their speedy service, we trust them to safely deliver our important packages.

However, not all experiences with the company are positive.

Recently, a business owner in Newcastle, NSW, shared a video on social media capturing an alarming moment when an Australia Post worker appeared to make a half-hearted attempt at a delivery.

In the footage, we see the postie quickly pull up to the business, grab the package from the back, scan it, jot down a collection card, and return the package to the storage box - all in just 90 seconds!

The frustrated customer took to social media to express their disappointment, saying, 'This is apparently Australia Post's idea of attempting to deliver a registered post item.'

To make matters worse, the customer was in their office at the time of the attempted delivery, with a big 'open' sign displayed in the window. The postie could have easily gone to the door and knocked, and the customer would have been more than happy to receive the package personally.

The video of the Australia Post worker's half-hearted delivery attempt has sparked a wave of outrage among Facebook users. Many have encouraged the customer to file a complaint with AusPost, with one person saying the incident made their 'blood boil'.

Another user sarcastically commented that the postie looked 'quite keen and motivated', while others noted that it would have been quicker for him to simply knock on the door rather than go through the motions of filling out a collection card.

Sadly, this is not an isolated incident, and many others have shared their own frustrating experiences with delivery delays and package mix-ups.

One user shared that they currently have a package en route from Tamworth to Newcastle that has been to Queensland and Perth and back again.

Why do Australia Post workers often leave collection cards, instead of properly delivering the parcel?

The frustrating issue of Australia Post workers leaving collection cards instead of delivering parcels has been revealed to have a deeper underlying cause. According to a former delivery driver who spoke to a news source, the problem lies in the way contractors are paid.

While corporate Australia Post workers are paid an hourly rate, contractors are paid per parcel. This means that they are incentivised to deliver as many parcels as possible or leave collection cards, rather than taking the time to ensure successful deliveries.

In fact, the former driver revealed that he was paid just $1.50 per package during his time as a contractor in Melbourne.

While obstacles such as high fences and off-leash dogs may contribute to some missed deliveries, it's clear that the pay structure for contractors is a significant factor.

Until this underlying issue is addressed, it's likely that customers will continue to experience frustrations with unreliable and inconsistent delivery services.

Australia Post has responded to the Newcastle delivery incident, acknowledging that the delivery driver failed to meet their standards. A spokesperson for the company told Yahoo News Australia that they take immediate steps to address any deliveries that do not meet their expectations.

The company has strict protocols in place for items such as registered mail, and they encourage customers to contact them directly about any delivery issues. They have apologised to the customer for any inconvenience caused and are looking into the matter.

It's reassuring to see that Australia Post is taking the issue seriously and is committed to ensuring high standards of service for all customers.

Let's hope that the company's efforts to address the underlying issues with its delivery services will lead to improved experiences for customers across the country.

I am very disappointed with Australia Post as many offices are closed on Saturdays and the few that are open work on very short hours.
It is simply impossible for people like me who work until 5pm to pick up a package or complete any Post transaction. I have to leave work and lose working hours just because of the inappropriate working hours of the Post Office.

My last postie did this , I always found cards in my mail box and we were home at the time . We even had a sign on the door to go around the back if needed.

I also had got mail all the time for the same house number as mine except it was for someone in the next street and street names were nothing alike mine starts with R theirs start with F

With our current postie he is amazing , ask how we are doing every time he sees us . With larger envelopes he places on our verandah.

I would say he is our best postie so far

Have to admit drivers here don't hang around. Last parcel I had delivered, they rang the doorbell and by the time I got to the door the driver was driving back up the road. Made me think of speedy Gonzales. I haven't had any problems with them. 🙋‍♂️😃😃

The delivery of a small parcel was to be delivered to me by the Toll group, (Friday morning) I had received notification that the parcel was on the way and then another notification to say there was a holdup. Then suddenly on the Monday morning another notification email was sent to say the parcel was on the way, but no parcel was delivered, I had staked out the mailbox site outside my house hoping to get the parcel from Toll, but nothing eventuated. I then rang the toll group to ask where the parcel was, and was asked the size of the parcel, and if there was any card left in my mailbox. No card left and parcel was smaller than a tissue box. In the afternoon on Monday after 1.00 pm, I was outside waiting for the parcel, but instead a fancy red sports car turned up with a card from Toll to say the parcel was to be collected at a Parcel Point. Why did I pay delivery fee in the first place, and why was this sports car used to deliver a Notification Card. I had to wait for Tuesday to front up to the BP Garage in Kenmore to take delivery of my parcel. I can say I was more than angry, and will not accept Toll delivery to my home any longer.

NEVER ASK AND PAY AUSTRALIA POST FOR A REGISTERED DELIVERY THAT REQUIRES A SIGNATURE TO BE RETURNED.
I have done so TWICE, paid extra money and attached a return addressed envelope as evidence of a delivery.
The post office charges to obtain the signature of the person receiving the official document and also to return the signed
document to me. The first time was in Eudlo, Qld. AND the recipient denied receiving the document, that cost me stacks.
Now some 12 or so years later, Gympie Post Office swore to me that they would definitely return a signature to me.
Same procedure, increase in pricing, a return address envelopte attached and AGAIN NO RETURN SIGNATURE OR EVIDENCE THAT THE DELIVERY WAS COMPLETED TO THE SAID PERSON. This time the recipient admitted that he received the document but NOT from the postal officer. NO SIGNATURE came back to me.
The postal worker at the Gympie Post Office stated that the procedure was completed as promised BUT STILL NO RETURNED SIGNATURE.
Total wasted money and no recourse available.
Aistralia Post DONT CARE and believe that they are above the law, with an attitude of we DO OUR JOB THAT PEOPLE PAY FOR.
That is total BS.
Express Mail from Sydney and district IS simply standard postage. Express from Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth may actually be delivered Express but NO GUARANTEE. You the customer must take what is handed to you. You must smile and DON'T VERBALLY COMPLAIN or the Police will be called . If you disagree with their ethics, expect to be escorted out by a police officer. END OF STORY.

whether its Aust Post or any other company, I am sitting in my lounge with full view of the drive, and I get up as I see them. and they have to pass this window to get to the door- no obstructions, yet a note is put in letter box without attempt to deliver. Or they ring the bell and leave instantly. It takes me about 10 steps to reach the door with them in full view. I scared the living daylights out of one of them as he started to walk away without knocking or ringing bell and I opened the door and asked why. They obviously don't want to deal with customers. I also have a postie who folds my letters in half and shoves them in crumpled. Even get notification to pick up when the item actually fits in the letter box as its so small. I don't get it at all.

As far as the Postal Service is concerned it pays to live rural and have the postie live in the same village. He was a much loved and treasured member of the community. If you were going to be away from home you just told him and he held your mail for you. If he heard you were poorly it was not unknown for him to bring a loaf of bread or bottle of milk to help you out. If you were out when he tried to deliver a parcel he wouldn't just take it to the post office, he would try again on his way home from work. :)

Aust Post are crap. Yes I have seen the way delivery is done. I have made complaints provided evidence and they are still working for auspost they never take complaints seriously. Why does it take 14days For delivery from airport to a suburb 20mins away? I always
Track my parcels so ridiculous. I also tried the parcel boxes and that took all day to be put in the box and me being notified. Another example I had delivered to the box to find it wasn’t there another complaint and to this day never had a refund for goods and out of pocket by $500 I have lost faith in auspost

Posties and couriers have been doing this for years. I have lodged formal complaints numerous times but nothing gets done about it. Same with envelops clearly marked as DO NOT FOLD, being folded and stuffed into the letterbox. Also packages clearly marked fragile being just chucked onto our front porch. My wife recently confronted a courier who she witnessed throwing a package onto our front porch from about 20 feet away. He abused her and called her a racist arsehole with several other adjectives because she dared to challenge his lack of customer service. When I came out to see what was going on he quickly got in his van which he had parked on the wrong side of the road across our driveway, and drove off. We reported him to his company but have no idea if they dealt with him although we have not seen him in the area since.

Parcel delivery contactors can be hit and miss, usually in a huge rush, although we rarely have any problems with them, they usually leave our parcels by the front door. But our regular Postie is just lovely! He also delivers small parcels and always brings them to the door, rings the doorbell, and hands it to you in person. Very polite and friendly, I think he enjoys his job and having a chat with his customers.

Yes, I live in the country and our postie is great, however AusPost themselves are absolute crap.
I waited over 3 weeks for them to deliver a parcel from their depot some 1-1/2 hours away, with constant excuses about floods and rail delays
Only trouble being there is no rail service here and there had been no floods in WA.
Also paid express delivery for my granddaughters birthday present to be delivered, it took10 days, I could have driven there in 3 hours.
Service not!!!
