Australia Day Shopping: Which Stores Will Be Open for Business?

Australia Day… A time to get together to celebrate the wonderful country we call home.

With the 26th of January fast approaching, here at Seniors Discount Club, we want to make sure you make the most of the day!

Planning a backyard BBQ with the family, or are you just wanting some snacks to enjoy while you watch the fireworks? Need to buy some mozzie spray and beach umbrellas?

No worries, because most major supermarkets, retail stores, and alcohol retailers – such as Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, Bunnings, Dan Murphy's, BWS, Liquorland, and Vintage Cellars – across Australia will be open!

However, operating hours differ from state to state and may change from region to region, so be sure to check the schedule of your local stores ahead of time.

WOOLWORTHS

Get ready to shop at Woolworths - the supermarket giant has confirmed that most of their stores across the country will be open, but beware! There will be a select few exceptions, so make sure to check the hours at your local store before January 26th.
  • NSW and ACT - all stores will remain open, with the exception of North Sydney and Eastlakes Metro.
  • VIC - all stores will be open except the Bourke Street branch and the Collins Square store.
  • WA - all stores will be open except in Esperance.
  • SA - all regional stores will be open (except Rundle Mall and Millicent), while all metro stores will be closed.
  • NT - all stores will be open except in Gove.
  • QLD and TAS - all stores will remain open.

ALDI

This Australia Day, ALDI has got you covered, with most of their stores around the country open for all your shopping needs.

The supermarket giant is encouraging shoppers to head to the store locator section of their website to confirm individual opening times so that they can plan their shopping trips accordingly.

But don't dilly-dally, because most stores will close at 8 pm sharp.

COLES

Good news to all our valued members and regular Coles shoppers in NSW! Get ready for Australia Day with ease, as the supermarket giant has confirmed that all NSW stores will remain open on January 26th.

But for those of you in other states and regions (particularly in SA), it's best to double-check with your local branch to confirm their schedule. You can do so through this link.

With Coles' wide range of products, you're sure to find everything you need to make the day one to remember.

BUNNINGS

Get ready to fire up the grill and fend off those pesky mosquitoes because Bunnings stores nationwide will be open for business on Australia Day!

Whether you're in need of barbeque supplies, mozzie spray, or beach umbrellas, you'll be able to find everything you need to make your Australia Day celebration complete. Don't let your holiday preparations fall short – head to Bunnings and make sure you're fully stocked.

LIQUOR STORES

Australia Day is the perfect opportunity to gather with loved ones, indulge in delicious food, and enjoy a responsible drink (or two) with friends and family.

And the good news is, your favourite liquor retailers, such as Dan Murphy's, BWS, Liquorland, and Vintage Cellars, will all be open for the public holiday. However, be sure to check with your local store for specific opening hours, to make sure you don't miss out on the celebrations.

BEST AND LESS

Finally, Best And Less stores across the country will be open, with the exception of Gosford, Grafton, Lismore and Toronto in NSW and Albany and Floreat in WA. Perfect for anyone who forgot to buy swimmers ahead of time!

If you're looking to make the most of Australia Day, we advise you to phone your local stores in advance. If you have any questions about trading times, you can also call their customer service hotlines.

We hope this helps, members!

I can understand Aldi as they are from a war mongering country and dont have loyalty to Australia, the others is mostly greed and they dont have a loyaty to Australia either.

I am incapable of shopping every day. I only shop on pension day & by the end of the shopping I am worn out. I spent the rest of the day recovering. So I agree we should let the shops shut so everyone can celebrate Australia day after all Australia would not be the country it is today if the English hadn't invaded & started the rate of progress we have today. The original owners were content with keeping the land strictly for themselves & not willing to share. They could have been invaded by a far more aggressive mob than the British & then they would have been wiped out completely. We who have English roots had been invaded by many in the course of the years. That is what made the English adventurers. Australia was lucky to have been founded by the English who have advanced this country to a high standing in the world of nations today.

I didn't realise that supermarkets were now classed as essential services. ;)

You misunderstood me. I meant that people who work for essential services don’t have a choice. They remain open when others in other industries close on public holidays.
