Aussies discover councils' cashback schemes on these popular products

The rising prices of goods have not been easy to navigate for many. But it has even become more difficult for women to afford the right menstrual products. However, there's a positive development that can offer some relief.

A particular supermarket item is now eligible for a 50 per cent rebate, thanks to a recent initiative by councils across Australia.

At least 22 councils across five states and territories have offered homeowners up to $130 cashback on reusable menstrual products, such as period underpants.

This initiative is part of a broader push towards sustainability and reducing waste, as these products are not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly.

Major supermarket chains have jumped on board, stocking a wide range of period briefs in-store and online.

These products are priced between $11 and under $38 in both Coles and Woolworths. However, with the available rebates, ratepayers can stock up for 50 to 100 per cent off the retail price.

The news has taken social media by storm, with many users expressing surprise and delight at the discovery of the rebate scheme.

'What a fantastic incentive,' one user commented, while another added, 'Wow, I had no idea.'

Despite the enthusiasm, many are questioning why this scheme isn't more widely publicised.

'So good to know, why isn't anyone publicising this?' one user asked.

To find out if your local council is part of the scheme, you can check Rebately’s website for more information.

My daughter the nurse was just at mine and she said that using these are unhygienic. She said that alot of homeless women do use these and they should be removed from shelves due to causing severe infection.

Maybe the government should make all products for menstruation for all women free. Having a period is never a luxury or something we want
Absolutely, and free condoms for boys.

does a packet of depends also qualify? Hopefully the Senior subscribers to this site pass the message on to their daughter and grand daughters.
I don't know whether this information will be of use to you Alan, but you have opened the topic for me to tell all that don't know about the CAPS scheme. This scheme entitles those who qualify to be subsidized for incontinence products.
To get CAPS you need to meet all the eligibility requirements. The basic requirements are that you: have permanent and severe incontinence have an eligible neurological condition or eligible other condition that is the cause of your permanent and severe incontinence be 5 years or older be an Australian citizen.
I hope this helps some of you who may not be aware. It can potentially save hundreds of dollars a year.

Over 20 years ago, there was the PADP scheme in NSW - Provision of Appliances for People with a Disability whereby items such as sanitary items and incontinence devices were heavily subsided by the NSW Government.

I am uncertain if it is still in existence.

Good morning, I had not heard of this scheme, but I found this final report. Thought you might like to search and read.

NSW Health Review of the Program of Appliances for Disabled People June 2006.
Apparently, this was their final report

This is a way to create a deficit of goods Soviet style by skyrocketing demand.
This is not fair deal for all Australian females - has to be a country wide program.
I only could imagine admin overhead of this initiative that would be compensated by rates hike.

Not really relevant to many seniors, BUT: I think a better option is to campaign the government to cancel GST on menstural products! If I remember rightly, condoms do not attract GST but sanitary pads do!! Ridiculous!!
