Aussie Organisation queen reveals she ‘resets’ her fridge every Sunday so it looks sparkling new every week

A well-organised fridge is important not only because it makes you feel good every time you open it, but also because it keeps your food fresh and saves you time when prepping a meal.

And while it may seem like a daunting task, you may be surprised to find that you can complete the job in no time with a few simple organisational tricks.

Like this one shared by a cleaning guru from Sydney who revealed that '
resetting' your fridge every Sunday is the key to having a sparkling fridge day and day out.

Anita Birges, the founder of Mise en Place Professional Organizing, showed her 39,000 Instagram followers how she keeps her fridge tidy.

Rather than simply placing groceries in the fridge, which makes it look cluttered, the Sydney cleaning expert categorises the items in her fridge by ensuring that everything has a place and is labelled.

Her fridge's top shelf is reserved for dairy, milk, cheese, and cold meats, while the middle shelf is stacked with pre-planned meals.

The bottom shelf has two separate containers for snacks and bread. And her refrigerator door is where she keeps condiments, soda water, juice, and jam.

She organises the fridge at the end of each week, removing any fruits and vegetables that 'aren't good anymore.'

But instead of simply throwing them away, she said, the produce is often placed in compost to decompose naturally over time.

She also advised checking products with a 'best before' or 'expiry date,' including cheeses, milk, and eggs.

“Bring anything that’s about to be out of date to the front of the fridge,” she wrote in her Instagram post.

She also suggested labelling a container 'use this week' for food that is about to expire.

And to save time and money, she prepares vegetables for snacks and lunch boxes by cutting them and placing them in the appropriate container.

On Sundays, any leftovers are eaten or thrown out to start the week fresh.

Her followers were quick to praise her organisation tips, with many saying that her fridge looked 'fabulous' after it had been reset.

Her cleaning tips will ensure that your food stays fresh while keeping your fridge tidy.

Here are Ms Birges' steps for resetting your fridge once a week.

  1. Go through your fruits and vegetables and compost anything that is no longer edible.
  2. Bring anything that is about to go bad to the front of the fridge. You can create a container labelled 'use this week.'
  3. Chop up some vegetables or fruits for snacks and lunch boxes.
  4. Go through any leftovers and either eat them or throw them away to start the week fresh.

I don't think of myself as particularly dis-organised but I have to say, compared to hers it looks as if a bomb has gone off in my fridge, my pantry isn't much better! However, a word in my defence is that I know exactly what is in my fridge (or pantry), how long it's been there and what needs replacing. Not much in my household gets thrown away, rather it just works its way down the food chain - dog, cat, compost then rubbish!!:);)

Hi Ricci does the cat know she comes after the dog in the food chain 😁😜

My fridge is deep, so I have no choice but to check what's in the back of those shelves on a regular basis.
I do admire swanky photos of immaculate fridges & pantries on Instagram. Her pic is to be revered. ;)

I must admit, due to living alone, I only provide for myself.
So my frig always is tidy and clean, and only contains food which is fresh.
I don't buy food for someone who is not coming home or is eating elsewhere.
Makes a huge difference to how you shop and what you have in stock.
Ditto and I check my fridge every Wednesday (Thursday is rubbish pick up) I also shop on Fri/Sat I only buy enough for a few days and live by my Mother's mantra. Use it up, wear it out, make it do or go without! It's amazing what you can make with an egg, cheese and a couple of tired veg.

Well done. However, I never have my frig looking like that...maybe I have too many condiments or other things in my frig for it to ever look that good. :)
