Aussie mum shares trick for sprinkle-filled fairy bread – minus the mess!
Growing up, every Aussie remembers the taste of fairy bread – lightly buttered bread sprinkled with the all-time favourite 100s and 1000s.

There was nothing quite like going to a children’s birthday party and seeing a plate full of sprinkled goodness waiting to be devoured in seconds. It’s literally joy on a plate!

Not to mention, the beloved treat is pretty cheap and accessible too. Lots of Aussies already have the ingredients (white bread, butter, and sprinkles) at home and it’s so easy to make as well.

Just prepare your white bread, spread a generous layer of melted butter, and go crazy with the sprinkles!

However, this leaves you dealing with a sprinkly mess in the kitchen. So how do you make a mess-free fairy bread?

One Aussie mum is here to show us the ropes!

Forget pouring the sprinkles onto the buttered bread, there’s a new method in town.

Sharing on TikTok, one Aussie mum revealed her trick for making the perfect fairy bread every single time – minus the hassle of cleaning up the spilled sprinkles on your kitchen bench top!

“It has come to my attention that people have been pouring sprinkles on...” Sarah wrote on the now-viral clip. Then, she demonstrated her mess-free trick.

Apparently, all you need is a container small enough to fit your bread.

First, Sarah poured just enough sprinkles to cover the inside surface area of the container. In the video, she used a small plastic square container.

Then, she dipped her bread into the container, butter-side down. Since the butter was soft and sticky, the bread was evenly coated with sprinkles and not one sprinkle dropped off of it.

Then voila! Mess-free sprinkle-filled fairy bread in seconds!

Sarah’s video quickly went viral on TikTok, gaining over 1.2 million views and more than 2,000 comments just a few days after posting.

“If I can change even one person's life for the better, then I’m doing things right, one slice of fairy bread at a time,” the mum added.

Needless to say, thousands of Sarah’s viewers were left with their minds blown, saying they “have been doing it wrong their whole lives”.

“32 years being an Aussie and I failed to even think of this,” one user wrote. A second user added: “I thought I was relatively smart until about 17 seconds ago!”

Meanwhile, some users said that this method is nothing new and they have been doing it this way for years.

“I can’t believe that anyone would do it any other way? It’s mess-free and fast,” one person commented.

On the other hand, not everyone’s a fan of the trick.

Some users were concerned that it “contaminates” the rest of the unused sprinkles. But Sarah responded that she made sure she only poured enough sprinkles on the container for the number of fairy bread she was making.

Others also reasoned out that pouring the sprinkles onto the fairy bread is an important part of the fairy bread experience, especially for the young ones.

What about you, members? How do you make your fairy bread nowadays?

Years ago, I discovered the pouring method did lead to the run-away balls of colour needing to be cleaned up, despite care and caution.
The small container method led to wastage, as I couldn't judge exactly how much was required for the number I was making.
So I used a teaspoon, and sprinkled the 100s & 1000s over the buttered bread.
It gave me great control with no losses to find and be cleaned up.

I was a school canteen organiser for 28 years , we always made fairy bread by buttering the the bread , putting sprinkles on a plate & gently pressing buttered side down onto the sprinkles. It's common sense really as are a lot of these so called new ideas, people of my age have been doing these things for most of their lives .
