Popular food blogger and mum-to-be, Leah Itsines, has shared a ‘food hack’ showing the ‘correct’ way of slicing up an iconic Aussie summer fruit - the mango.
Leah demonstrated the slicing ‘hack’ on an overripe mango. Photos from Instagram / @leahitsines.
Leah shared the video on her Instagram page, saying she has seen this ‘hack’ online before.
“But I was like, ‘No we cut mangoes this way.’” Said the 26-year-old, with mango and knife in hand, demonstrating the traditional way of slicing the fruit parallel down each side of the pit.
And then, the food blogger revealed the ‘correct’ way of cutting up the juicy fruit.
“Have a look, I’m cutting it this way.”
Leah placed the knife towards the centre of the mango and began slicing the fruit horizontally, creating two halves.
“Ready?” She then grabbed the upper and lower halves of the fruit before twisting them apart.
With one ‘pop’, the mango was easily split in two.
“It’s like a little cup!” said Leah in between fits of giggles.
She placed the upper half with the seed down on the counter, then began scooping out the flesh of the lower half with a spoon.
“This is the best thing ever!” the mum said while looking off-camera at her partner.
The health blogger originally uploaded the clip on her Instagram story before making it a permanent video on her profile due to ‘popular demand’.
“Brought back by popular demand now this mango cutting is forever on your feed hahaha,” she wrote.
“Ps. We just don’t talk about the other pip side,” she captioned the post.
Leah’s Instagram page has over 590,000 followers.
Some of her fans have since tried out the hack for themselves.
“I tried this yesterday after seeing this video. Mind blown,” one wrote.
One fan even confessed, “Omg I’ve been cutting it wrong!”
“What the actual f!!!!! Best hack ever!” another follower chimed in.
However, the trick doesn’t work with every mango, as commented by a few fellow foodies.
“I tried it today and it didn’t work,” one user aired out their frustration. “I don’t think mine was very ripe.”
“Mine didn’t work, must have to be super ripe,” another agreed.
