Apple Cobbler

Three words to describe this apple cobbler: easy, comforting and down-right delicious. The best part? It takes three simple steps to get this golden-brown delight from the mixing bowl to your plate.

Ingredients​

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Dash ground cloves
  • 4 large apples, peeled and sliced ( I use granny Smith but have also used red Apples)
  • 2 tablespoons cold butter
  • Topping:
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons full cream milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Optional: Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Directions​

  1. Preheat oven to 175° / 155°C fan-forced
  2. . In a large bowl, combine sugars, flour, cinnamon and cloves. Add apples and toss to coat. Transfer to a greased 8-in. square baking dish. Dot with butter.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk milk and egg; stir into flour mixture just until moistened. Drop tablespoonfuls over apple mixture. Bake until topping is golden brown and filling is bubbly, 35-40 minutes. Serve warm, with ice cream or heavy cream and cinnamon, if desired.
