ALDI's latest Special Buys caused a wave of nostalgia – shoppers are racing to the store!

We all know and love ALDI for its incredible bargains on everything, from affordable groceries to appliances and homewares. Still, the supermarket giant is outdoing itself this week with a classic Special Buys deal that left shoppers buzzing.

As it turns out, some of Australia’s favourite old-fashioned kitchenware items are making a comeback.

The budget supermarket recently shared on Facebook that a retro three-piece collection of Tupperware containers and two variations of a cake holder will be a part of its Special Buys from October 12 until stocks last. So, you’ll need to be quick!

‘Keep the most precious cargo safe and sound with the Tupperware On-The-Go Cake Taker or Classic Canister Set. They are perfect for transporting and storing your entertaining staples.’ the post read.

According to ALDI’s website, the three-piece set is ‘perfect for tea, coffee, biscuits, and more’. The Tupperware set also features an ‘iconic one-touch, instant seal’.

Thousands of customers flooded the comments section of ALDI’s announcement, expressing their nostalgia over the offering.

‘When these were around in my mum’s kitchen, we had orange and green frilly kitchen curtains.’ one woman recalled.

‘I was 19 when I first got my hands on these Tupperwares. I bought the red freezer ware set for when I moved out of the home. I still have some and I’m 59 now.’ another reminisced.

‘You can find these in op shops, they are so old!’ a third pointed out, while a fourth joked: ‘You can tell how old we are when we all get excited about Tupperware and ALDI.’

‘I’ll be there to get some!’ another declared.

‘Who’s going to cover for me with the boss so I can sneak away to ALDI on Wednesday morning?’ a sixth teased.

‘I still have my cake carrier (the oblong one). I use it regularly. I had it for nearly 50 years and it’s still going strong!’ commented one.

‘That cake carrier carry strap brings back some bad memories of my childhood. My mother had a wicked backswing if we upset her. You definitely felt the sting of that strap.’ one more shared. Ouch!

I sold Tupperware for years.

I stopped as the prices became ridiculous, yes I could have sold them at this price and people would have paid for them but I just couldn't try to convince people , it felt wrong.

The now prices in Aldi are pretty good .

20 years ago a cake taker was around $55

The canisters were the aldi price and above For just one piece

I would buy at those prices

Tupperware just last so much longer

I wonder if they still carry a guarantee.

When I worked for Tupperware they always said if they sold at a cheaper price then they would have to remove the warranty

All my Tupperware is more than 50 years old,
so I don't have the pretty "new" colours.
However, it is the best.
When my sister replaced an item a few years ago, she was given a tiny container as a replacement.....which they stated was the current item comparable to the one she was returning.
It was about 1/4 the size of the original.
They didn't honour the warranty given at the time of purchase....lifetime guarantee.
The Aldi prices are very good.

Tupperware will honour the warranty if the product is still available but there is a $12.95 fee per piece for postage. Seems a bit dodgey.

That’s what mums did back then. Mine used a feather duster cane. Hurt like hell, but we never repeated an offence and I didn’t grow up hating my mum and dad and I’m not neurotic and I didn’t grow into an abuser either. I knew that consequences came with certain actions….unlike kids today who are so darned precious you can’t even blink at them.

My father used a new leather sole of a size 10 or 11 shoe, didn't need a good reason for using it & together with my mother was self centred & though they have both passed, have no respect from my brother or l. We were both physically & emotionally abused. I was institutionalized 3 times due to this. Once as a teen & twice married. The only child they had it would appear was our sister, even down to what was left to her from the estate.

I am ashamed to say, l did become an abuser until l sought medical help, telling my G.P. it couldn't continue. This abuse included self harm at a late age for no reason known to me.

I have tried to move on, writing a letter to my parents, sealing it in an airtight container & wedging it under a rock on the shoreline of my birthplace, Broome.

It must be hard when parents are like that but thankfully not all are. I was smacked as a child for being naughty along with my 6 brothers and sisters.. Some these days may call it abuse but it wasn't it was discipline and for the most of us it did make us better people. I am so sorry that you went through this and to this day there are still those that treat others like that. Always was always will be. Sorry again

I’m so very sorry you endured this horrible abuse from the two people you should have been able to trust above all others. My heart hurts for you. I’m truly sorry and I’m sure this thread doesn’t make you feel any better. I’m so glad to know my parents knew the difference between abuse and discipline. Sometimes it’s a very fine line. In your case, you were failed on so many level.

Thankyou Thecla. Dad even planned his death ( suicide ), taking my then step-mother ( he remarried ), to a hotel for a weekend. When she couldn't contact him came to a blacked out unit & a note left on the table reading, 'Prepare yourself. Not a pretty sight'. Opening the curtains, he had hung himself.

Thankyou maxesmum. I look at the close bond 2 of my sons-in-law have with their parents & in particular their father & l think what a beautiful relationship. I love that they can share a joke & everything else that goes with their family.
