ALDI Australia has commented on the recent announcement made by the retailer's headquarters that it will raise prices by 20 to 50 per cent this week in its German stores after the Russia-Ukraine conflict is affecting the production costs of some groceries.
In a statement released to the European press agency DPA, ALDI Germany spokesperson Florian Scholbeck said that hundreds of products will be experiencing massive price hikes.
He quipped that a number of items such as meat products, sausage buys, and butter will be "significantly more expensive" this week.
“Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, we’re witnessing jumps in purchase prices that we have not experienced in this way before,” he said.

Meanwhile, other reports from German media companies suggested that around 400 buys will be affected by the price hike, triggering social media users to speculate that the ALDI price hikes could trickle to its stores in other countries.
One person said: “This is in Europe, but give it time.”

An ALDI Australia spokesperson addressed these concerns, admitting that while the retailer is experiencing some price increases in various items, the supermarket is determined to keep the prices of groceries in its stores lower than its competitors.
The spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au: "While we can’t speak to the specific challenges in our European operations, we can confirm that even if prices on products do increase locally we are committed to keeping them as the lowest in the market for our Australian customers.”
“Every aspect of ALDI in Australia was built to withstand inflationary pressure, from our smaller format stores to our carefully curated private label range of groceries."
“Every day, customers are discovering how much they can save by shopping for their groceries at ALDI, and it is our unwavering priority to continue to have the lowest prices on high-quality products, no matter what happens in the world around us.”
